Hi! I was wondering if any of you magicians might help. I don't know how to type the Elvish Letters and make them appear somewhere -- that could then allow me to copy something into my pictures file -- from which I could end up with a paper version for framing.

Basically, it's a "Tengwar Request". . . but an annoyingly specific one!

I think I could manipulate the size of the text to fit my needs, but I've no idea how to change the colour -- that is, black on white would do, but far better (considering the illustration involved) would be a maroon bleeding down into grey (for the longer English text anyway).

LOL! I know, a lot to ask. Anyway, what I'd like is a transcription of the following:

Canafinwe Macalaure

And I was wondering if I could get two (!) versions of the Quenya here, with respect to the vowel a, the second using the "like a circumflex" form. . . which I guess should be. . . erm, a circumflex!

:)

So far, in my imagination, this will go above the illustration (Maglor playing a harp), and the lettering will have its own "window" cut into the mat.

Next comes English text, which I would like transcribed in a Full Mode. One of the following three examples will do. It's up to you (meaning anyone who might choose to help out here, if anyone) to choose which one:

1) A "more fully English version" of a line in The Silmarillion:

"Of the Kinslaying at Swanhaven more is told in that lament which is named the Fall of the Noldor, that Maglor made ere he was lost."

2)
Or the actual sentence from Of The Flight Of The Noldor:

"Of the Kinslaying at Alqualonde more is told in that lament which is named Noldolante, The Fall of the Noldor, that Maglor made ere he was lost."

3) Or this bit of verse from The Lays of Beleriand:

forgotten harper, singer doomed,
who young when Laurelin yet bloomed
to endless lamentation passed
and in the tombless sea was cast.

So, in short, Maglor's name in Quenya, and only one of these English examples in a Full Mode.

Actually, I envision three windows in the mat: above the illustration, Quenya name; middle, illustration of Maglor; below the illustration, the English sentence (or verse) in full mode.

I'm open to "fancy fonts" or fonts that look "handwritten" but are not (if any exist), and if possible with the English, a design -- of the lines -- something like this for example.

Again, I know that's a lot! Especially getting the Tengwar into a colour besides black, and bleeding into a different colour from top to bottom. That said, I can pay a reasonable amount, if wanted. I intend to mat and frame the piece next to my bookcase.

At the moment I have the illustration printed (I cropped it a bit) -- but lately I can't seem to locate it on the web in order to show it here! And, yikes, I don't know the artist! The following is not the illustration, but the background colour is close enough, although in the actual illustration I'm using (surprise!) the colour bleeds nicely into grey, from top to bottom.

And yes, I should know how to do all of this myself.

I can write out the Tengwar by hand at least, but I'm not a good enough calligrapher, and as I say, I don't know how to type the Elvish Letters into a document or something.

And hey, I was born in the last century, even if that's no good excuse!

Thanks for listening. Any help will be appreciated

Aha! Found it at last! And no offense to the very talented illustrator, but I cropped the right side of the image, about halfway at the ear (without going into my opinion about the shape of Quendian ears).

The art was posted by "sad -- beep" on Tumblr. It might have been for something called "The Shadow of War", "Shadow of Mordor" but I'm not sure of that really, nor what these are actually. Maybe games of some sort?

Anyway, this is the colour I'm working with, and what I meant by the colour "bleeding" down into grey (and it looks like there's blood on the strings and the hand).

As I noted above, black Tengwar would work, if I can't manipulate the colour of the lettering.

I still have no idea who the artist is! But I love the play of white spaces, the design in general, and the style -- which I think would work well with some Elvish Lettering.

And if I can find a similar piece with a Galadriel :)

LOL! Just noticed that "sad -- beep" is Angelica Ramses, and her page currently reads:

Basically elves, history and cats (mostly black)

Okay never mind.

I'm thinking of another art project though - oh and sorry to post four times in a row but it couldn't be helped 🤣

I'm not sure how useful I can be here, because I don't know how to get Tengwar letters typed up in a document either, but I'm trying to make sure I understand what exactly you're asking in the off-chance I can do anything to help. Are you trying to impose the Tengwar letters on top of the image? Like as a caption, or creatively integrated somewhere in the picture?

(Also, that sad-beep Maglor is one of my absolute favorite depictions of him.)

Actually wait, I might have just found something! Maybe try this website. You can type text into it and it outputs Tengwar characters. You can then copy the output directly or download it as a file.

Ah. Thanks muchly Maedhros!

My original design was for three separate windows cut into the mat: top window: Canafinwe Macalaure (Quenya name written in the mode for Quenya) -- middle window: just the illustration (no lettering here) -- bottom window: just one of the three English examples given above (not all three) - English but written with Elven letters, and in a Full Mode.

And I kinda wanted the Tengwar to be in a colour of my choice. Perhaps I can manipulate that much (colouring the letters) on my computer.

In any case, I'll check out that site (totally forgot about it) and see what I can do with it.

Thanks again 👍

The picture below is what I mean in general by three windows in the mat board, but I was thinking of three different sized windows, and staggering them "atop" each other. For example, the top window would not be exactly above the middle window, and would be more of a "thinnish" rectangle - just enough to frame Maglor's name in Quenya. The middle window would be more squarish, especially as I've cut the illustration a bit to hide the end of Maglor's ear.

Well, anyway, the design of all that would be by me. And I'm certainly not matting it in white, but you get the idea, I'm sure.

Aha!

Downloaded the results (will verify them, just in case) and got the tengwar in both "pictures" and a document, but I can't figure out how to colour the characters themselves. Pictures wants to colour the background instead of the letters, and the document seems, unsurprisingly I guess, to treat the Elvish letters as a picture, and won't let me play with the colour either.

of course, if I knew how to use these machines much, much better. . .

Anyway, so far more than I expected. Thanks again!

And black lettering would certainly work, in any case.
