"Naruto run" Ninja run. Is actually historical?

I will be honest. Out of all the things this Ninja reacted to. THIS is the one i assumed was 100% fiction.
However, it is a little BIT exaggerated in Naruto. However, it is accurate. Basically the reason, here are the reasons.
1: The joke people online does is. They think Naruto run will make you run faster, which factually we know it wont? Because it will strain your legs to the ground. But the way anime shows it? it does seriously look like they run fast if they run like this. Which you could blame on the visual effects interms of fiction. Even though in certain fillers. Like Naruto Olympics, we can see they run normal sprint speed.


2: The exaggerated part? Is the fact that, Naruto run moves too low? Like a dodge run. Whereas a real Ninja would lean forward and run. Basically not as low as in Naruto. But the fact that this is real. Is legit surprising to me?

3: Purpose of it? To preserve energy.
