Just out of curiousity, what did u guys think of how Theoden was portrayed in the movie? Maybe it was just me but he seemed a lot different from the book. Although I did think he had some good moments (I liked the part when he looked at Eowyn after Gandalf released him from the spell & said "I know your face") he came across as too gruff overall. He was played better in ROTK, but I was still dissappointed with him in TTT since he was one of my favorited characters in the books. Does anyone else agree w/ me?

He was a lot different than I imagined him in the book. It was interesting, because I saw FOTR before the books, and all the FOTR characters were perfect for me. I read the book before TTT, and the characters were a lot different for me. Theoden was much different than I imagined, first of all being much younger looking than the King I pictured in my head. But there were many other things, such as the decisions that he makes. But overall, I think that he was a pretty good Theoden.

I thought Theoden was portrayed well in the film; but I did think that he should have looked older. Aside from that, my vision of him from the book was quite similar :)

Bernard Hill is a brilliant actor. I think he portrayed Théoden quite well, though it has been a year since I've seen the film

I thought Bernard Hill did a wonderful job of portraying his character (leastways, after that cheesy excorcism scene). However, the character in the films was much different (to my mind's eye, anyway) than the Theoden that JRRT created. I actually like the movie-Theoden better as a character, but, sadly, he's not Theoden as he should have been. In a lot of ways, he's closer to book-Denethor than film-Denethor was.
