"Then the Lady unbraided one of her long tresses, and cut off three golden hairs, and laid them in Gimli's hand. 'These words shall go with the gift,' she said. 'I do not foretell, for all foretelling is now in vain: on the one hand lies darkness, and on the other only hope. But if hope should not fail, then I say to you, Gimli son of Gloin, that your hands shall flow with gold, and yet over you gold shall have no dominion.' "

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away in the Halls of Mandos, Feanor looks on (somehow; it's my bizarre vision) and thinks "Oh, you b***h!! Are you kidding me? Do you know how much trouble would have been saved if you had given me ONE of those hairs? And to a Dwarf?" What follows then is a textbook example of wailing and gnashing of teeth.

That's right, Galadriel's hair was golden, "deep gold" [The Mirror of Galadriel]

And thus, I think, would not remind Feanor or the Eldar of the two trees -- which is implied (in my opinion) as the posthumously published reason Feanor asked Galadriel for a tress.

So . . . canon I allow this? I'm not sure.

From author published description, to my mind Galadriel and Celeborn "reflect" gold and silver, and feminine and masculine like the two trees and the sun and moon.

About this matter, some very good reflections are recorded on this site here; I think you might be interested to have a look.
