100 years ago today was the premiere performance of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue", the composer at the piano. I believe this is the first recording:
It seems slightly higher than the the old 78 I had a copy of:
But that could be from the YouTuber. Either way, the piece had to be abridged for recording, due to the time limits on 78s.

The "laughing" quality in the opening clarinet part -- much downplayed in many later performances by other hands -- was not originally intended by Gershwin, but played in rehearsal by Ross Gorman, Whiteman's clarinetist, as a joke on the composer, who liked it so much he rewote the part.

Here's another one, from around the same time period:

Lyrics:
Miri it is while sumer ilast with fugheles song,
oc nu neheth windes blast and weder strong.
ei ei what this niht is long.
and ich with wel michel wrong,
soregh and murn and fast.

Merry it is while summer lasts with the song of birds;
but now draws near the wind's blast and harsh weather.
Alas, Alas! How long this night is!
And I, most unjustly,
sorrow and mourn and fast.

The very first time I heard this song, I instantly thought the lyrics fit the character of Fingon very well, from my understanding of him. From singing in defiance of the darkness and despair of Thangorodrim, to his hopeful rallying cry before the begin of the Fifth Battle, he appears to be someone who fights to maintain his hope and keep his gaze upwards, so to speak, no matter how dark the circumstances. And this is something we can all do as well; no matter what life throws at us, we can still praise in the midst of hardships and tragedies, because GOD IS GOOD. 🙌🏻

I just have to share this amazing version of "We Don't Talk About Bruno." (I've never heard the original, but this cover is a version anyone can treasure.) The talent flowing out of this is endless, and-- the best part-- it is so theologically rich!

I. Love. This!!! The people who made this video were geniuses, and did such a great job with it. I think I like it better than the original! 😊

Bit of a whiplash for me lol. The last parody I heard of that song was 'sung by' characters from a video game.

Owsey's music is very peaceful, and I think quite unique. Some songs have lyrics (usually included in the video description, if listening on YouTube), while others are purely instrumental.

Lyrics for 'Little Galactic Voyager':

I woke up last night
When I thought I felt you
I walked outside
Into a cold, hard world
Thought I'd study the sky
Could the heavens know why?
Little Galactic Voyager
An escape, I suppose
Because what's left of my soul
Is still faithful to you

You graced my world with wonder
Before your whisper slowly grew inaudible
And do Gods laugh
At the circus of my life?

In my endless dreams
You look vaguely older
As if you've aged with me
Only somewhat slower
You'll ask "which one of us is stuck in the flux?"
And I'll already know the answer
I'll exist by myself
If there is no-one else
That'll haunt me like you
