Cool!

I will say, Ode to Joy with a fast pop beat is not really my cup of tea, lol. But I liked the operatic part before it, and the dancing.
I understand.

I think what is most impressive about both these performances is that since this was a competition, they only had a few days to recompose and choreograph their dances, practice while promoting their own recent album.(Which included performances)

The Symphony No.9 one was performed after two sleepless nights.

Unfortunately, they were the only group with as much creativity and quality, yet placed second because their fandom was small.
That's something I really hate about the music world. It's not often the best talent that wins. There's so many pop artists with mediocre singing abilities, bad belting and heavy reliance on autotune, yet they get super rich and famous. Yet there are so many opera singers who have far more talent and skill than many of these pop singers, and they can't make a living. When Phantom Broadway closed, for example, the principal Carlotta actress, who is an extremely accomplished opera singer, is now selling Phantom jewelry to make ends meet. She hasn't gotten on a new show yet as far as I'm aware. And she is an incredibly skilled opera singer with a gorgeous voice.

This is her, btw. I had the privilege of seeing her perform in Phantom in January 2023. She's a textbook perfect Carlotta!

Tell me about it.🙄

One of the reasons I don't really follow kpop anymore is that my favorite groups are either inactive due to military or contract issues, and the new groups are just glorified models who can do TikTok dances and lip sync.

3rd gen kpop(2012-2018) was the era for me, and I still listen to the discography from those times, but no recent bands except a few have been able to keep my attention for long.

Currently listening to Ligeti's requiem. I only had every listened to the Kyrie previously from 2001: A Space Odyssey and the other parts are just as creepy sounding

Here’s the Phantom of the Opera Symphonic Suite! The music from this show is just absolutely gorgeous, and the symphonic suite does it justice. 😁

Very nice. I recognise some bits, but most of this I haven't heard before. I'm fairly familiar with other music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. When I was 10, my dad played the part of Peter in the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. It was in the port city of Albany, where I went to afternoon extracurricular activities on some weekdays. My dad would take me there, and we'd drive back to our town late at night, since he would also attend his rehearsals then.

So I was present from the very first rehearsals (when everyone was just sitting in the seats of the theatre and practising the songs accompanied by a piano), all the way to the full dress rehearsal of the whole thing, with the orchestra. But there was no audience, except little me in one of the seats, all by myself in the dark. It was very memorable.
The theatre was an old train station near the port, which still had old rusted tracks that led nowhere running next to it.

Cool!! What fun memories to have. I’ve never seen or heard any of the music from Jesus Christ Superstar, but I know it seems to be a rather popular show. Of ALW’s works, the only two I’m really familiar with are The Phantom of the Opera and Cats, both of which I highly recommend, though most people think Cats is too weird for them. 😅 Phantom’s my favorite musical, hands-down.

If you ever decide to listen to Phantom’s music, I’d suggest using the Original London Cast (my favorite) or the 25th Anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall, or maybe see if there’s an Australian Cast recording. But whatever you do, DO NOT listen to the music from the 2004 movie. Very poor quality in the vocals (especially with the Phantom himself) compared to actual professionals who can sing.

The Cats musical was my favourite thing before I discovered the Lord of the Rings. When I first read the book, I 'sang' some of the poems and songs in my head to the tune of songs from Cats. 😂

I went to see it live at an outdoor theatre on my 18th birthday (it just happened to be showing then!). It was in the evening, so we had real moonlight in the sky above. 😁 They included the song 'Growltiger's Last Stand', which is often left out.

I've had this song stuck in my head for the past couple of days. It just came up from my memories after talking about this, probably. 😂

It's sung by Mary Magdalene and Peter, after Jesus gets arrested.

I like the singing in the film from 2000 (I have this one at home). The other DVD we have is the recording of the production my dad was in (they recorded it and gave copies to all the cast).
While the songs remain the same, the 'look' of the thing can vary quite widely, depending on the artistic and symbolic choices made. E.g. the 2000 film has everyone in a modern setting, while the one my dad was in had everyone dressing more historically.

This classic. Back in my tech college days I did hang around the Starting Gate Cafe because Lia Ray, a girl in the accounting class downstairs from our Electrical/Electronics class, worked there after class. :p

Of course this was likely her attitude when she came around with endless refills of Farmers Brothers coffee...

I did manage to go out with her a couple times before the year ended.
