Tolkien Moments

Metal Cat Crown Cat King or Queen Crown for Cat Crown - Etsy Israel

I just did another few hours of gardening yesterday evening (perfect night for it) and had a definite Tolkien/Hobbitish moment looking at my work. It gives me immense pleasure to see all these lovely flowers and veggies, with all the bees, butterflies, and dragonflies they attract and has been a complete labor of love. Not to mention that it seems to have inspired others on my street to start doing some gardening themselves! I think even the Old Gaffer would (hopefully) approve of how things have progressed.

As promised, here is a before/after of my gardening work:

Very nice! Flowers are much better than a monoculture lawn-- not just aesthetically, but because it helps our endangered creatures like bees and butterflies.

And then there is this lol picture in Snow White remake, to the right meant to replace the dwarves, if this movie makes money i will cry (which is funny because JRR Tolkien and C.S Lewis didnt like the original one by Disney back then since they felt they portrayed the dwarves as too childish). But i think we can agree Gimli is the ultimate bad dwarf!

The bottom photos aren't from the movie.

Edit: There's been a lot of back-and-forth on the subject -- the latest seems to be that some of the people in the photos are stand-ins.

That IS inspiring ... how long (months? years?) did it take you from "monoculture" lawn to your little corner of the Shire?

This is from last week, and the picture is not mine (I meant to get one of myself standing in front of it, but when I found the place I was out walking alone while the rest of the family was napping in our hotel room). Anyway...I was very excited when I found this place on our family vacation last week! Sadly, however, when I went in, there was absolutely nothing hobbit-like or Tolkien-ish about it. Just a plain old souvenir / gift shop with all of your usual items. The name and painting on the storefront were very cool, though.
