Bart the Bear, the "go to" bear for Hollywood in his day, lived 1977 - 2,000 - passed the year after The Edge (1999) was filmed. Passed of Cancer.
Bart was a Kodiak bear, weighing in at 1,500 lbs.
Starred in several movies, including The Bear, White Fang, The Great Outdoors, and Legends of the Fall among others.

His successor, Bart the Bear II became the Hollywood "go to" a little while after. Bart II was a rescue bear. not Bart's progeny, but was found with his sister Honey Bump in 2,000. He passed away peacefully in declining health at 21 years of age. He starred in Dr. Dolittle 2, Game of Thrones, We Bought a Zoo, and Into the Wild, as well as An Unfinished Life, Without a Paddle, Evan Almighty, Zookeeper, and Pete's Dragon. Bart 2 was a Grizzly Bear, listed at 1,100 to 1,400 lbs., a tiny bit smaller than his predecessor.

On September 21, 1987, Bart the Bear struck director Jean-Jacques Annaud. During a pause in the filming of The Bear, the Director thought a photo shoot would be a good thing to do. He invaded Bart's "territory" (his enclosure) without Bart's trainers' permission, or Barts, thinking Bart was comfortable enough with him to allow it. Annaud made a sudden move with his camera, pointing its lens at Bart, who perceived it as a threat and gave him a powerful smack with his right paw, then jumped on him (though Bart slid off, as it was on a hill's slope.)

Fortunately, the trainers were able to call Bart off quickly, as the director was playing dead hoping to survive.

Other than the blow, Bart only put a single puncture into the director's hindside, which required cleansing and attention for 2 months following.
