What Are Your 🎶Music Endeavors Right Now?

I'm sure we would, but give me a little time to work up some parameters with the other admins and get them posted here.
Being a family site, and having 'religious and political' guidelines/restrictions, we'd likely need to consider some restrictions.
(Personally, I think it would be terrific to be able to post stuff here for review, suggestions, the 'aww' factor, etc. But we'll see.)

Meanwhile, I came up with this stunning composition all on my own last night with my new piano. (Actually, I stole it off the internet. 😁)

Yesterday I went with @Maedhros_Nelyafinwë to her voice lesson so we could work on “Be Thou My Vision” together with her voice teacher in preparation for singing it for the graduation ceremony this weekend. Her teacher, who has a master’s degree in vocal coaching, observed we actually have the same timbre quality of voice, which is flute-like (compared to being brassy, etc.). While we had sung together plenty before for fun, this was never something we actually noticed, but according to her teacher, it means our voices are very similar and sound great together in a duet. We were thrilled at this discovery! 😃

In my own musical pursuits lately, last week in my voice lesson I was working on a classical Italian song, “Se Florindo è fedele.” Quite fun! It had been some some since I learned a new one, being more focused on other languages and classical art songs lately, so it felt good going back to Italian. Last month there was a recital for all the students, and I sang “Let My Song Fill Your Heart.”

Normally I continue with my lessons weekly over the summer, but as I will have a busy summer coming up, I will just be doing one lesson a month until the fall. It’s going to feel so weird not doing them all the time after so long…

I had heard about this from the ill-lustrious Maedhros, and was going to send you a PM congratulating you on the discovery. Now I'll just do it here.
It is my hope the two of you can duet together on the exceptional piece The Circling of the Sun in the Old Entish.
Of course, it may be hard for you to get through the whole thing in your lifetimes, but hey... we can hope.

(but really, that's great news about your voices.)

Your composition is astounding, and has touched me very deeply. 😂

OK, for @Andromadus the Invictus and the rest, the verdict is in.

We have the Prancing Pony, where members can showcase their musical art (as well as other art) already in place.

Feel free to post your creations, recordings, and/or personal work/accomplishments there, and let our Music thread here know it's up so we don't miss it.

Just keep in mind all the usual 'rules' - needs to be family-friendly stuff, not 'unseemly', not contrary to the political and religious guidelines etc.

(This does NOT mean a religious or political song can't be posted, as long as the purpose is to showcase your achievement/accomplishment/composition or whatever. But sometimes some of them may, I fear, be just "too much" for general public consumption. We need to be sensitive. We may recall on the news recently for example, reports about the singing of a certain political song regarding a certain country, which created quite a stir. of course, the purpose there was not to showcase talent, but to show support - yet it did not go over well with many at all.)

We look forward to seeing you all in your creative elements..!!

@Fingon_Findekáno - i connfess. I got reallllyyyyy selfish once.
I asked @Maedhros_Nelyafinwë, when I found out you two sang together at times, if you could team up some day and do a recording for me of O Holy Night - one of my all-time favorite songs.

So.. IF the opportunity ever arises and you have a very few minutes to spare in the next 9 or 10 years, and it showed up, I'd be REALLY appreciative..!

If not, that's OK too. 'Twas just a thought.

I'll be playing it myself on the piano here soon, working out my own accompaniment etc. to produce my own 'favorite version' so... no real need. Just selfish of me, as I say...

I keep forgetting to ask Finno about this, but I would love to! (Maybe we could attempt Angel 1 and Angel 2 from GOC? 👀)

In our church's Christmas show every year, they have this gorgeous arrangement of O Holy Night by the Annie Moses band. We sing in the choir, but there are these two duet parts that are very high. I believe the high note is an A5 for one of them. (I could probably do that because A5 is part of my comfortable range, for the most part.)

What a fun idea! “O Holy Night” is one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs as well. The version my church used in the Nativity scene for the last several years when we did our big annual Christmas show was absolutely gorgeous, being the Annie Moses Band one. Very classical sounding, and the choir parts were custom written for our church by the band itself. Paired with the scenery (and random singing goats 🤣), it was one of my favorite songs to sing.

I would be delighted to talk with Maedhros and see what we can do. ☺️

(Hehe, you beat me to it! 😂)

Yes, it would be fun to attempt the angel parts! (Is that high note really only an A5? It felt higher to me.)

Thank you for discussing it.
You see - the above part would be me if I sang it. A "random singing goat."
Haha! I’m sure you would sound better than the goat, Ent!

We have live animals on stage, and many times during “O Holy Night,” during the gentle instrumental interlude with the violins and harp, there has been this goat who decided to start singing. It cracks everyone up (including the audience), though those of us on stage are trying to keep a straight face and stay focused on the tender scene. 🤣

The goat’s singing has since become a favorite inside joke among us in the choir. 😂

I feel the whole thing would be very Tolkien. I can't imagine him missing an opportunity to sing O Holy Night at assembly..!
(Nor missing enjoying a random goat trying to steal the show. Sounds very like his sense of humor to me.)

There are those who do say I have a 'good voice' - but I think it's been after they've been in their cups a bit too long.

I'm sure your voice can't be that bad...

So I've had my piano 4 days now. (Today will be the fifth.)
In a sweeping gesture of pity on the world, I've cancelled my pending performance at Carnegie Hall.
However, the twigs are starting to behave independently, the branches are too, and the eyes and brain are beginning to have 'split-brain personality' so they can function better together. Things do progress. And, I'm finding if I push the learning from the sapwood deeper, into the heartwood, it seems to just kind of start to take over and make them all behave together with less chaos.

It is my hope in another 5 years, I wll be able to deliver Mary Had A Little Lamb with some level of proficiency. Especially if it's an easy score.

(I will never forget what Liberace did to Chopsticks in 1976..and on other occassions.!)

Well, my current musical endeavors:
1. I continue to practice the piano/keyboard of course.
2. I've been reading on the history and works of some of the "classical" (bad label) and operatic composers. (As usual, have laid in a bunch of books.)
3. Most recently, realizing I don't understand the history of music itself and its development through time, transitions, things impacting it, etc., I've begun a study on music over the last about 2,000 years. (Since about 600 CE). By nature, this reaches back into time a little bit further, as well.

I can't really understand the differences between composers and their works (even of their own as they evolved, much less comparing composer to composer) unless I understand the differences between the times and social/historical contexts they were working in. What they were trying to achieve, and why.

So... this whole thing keeps branching out into a much bigger web of intrigue than anticipated.

All because of those Elves..!! Treebeard once said "The Elves began it all, you know." (Though I think his context was a bit different.)
