I chose Glorfindel, simply because he is the coolest character in any of Tolkien's great works (hey, I changed my user name, not my favorites). :D
Aside from him, though, I would have loved to have more detail about Beregond and his life as a citized of Minas Tirith and a guard of the Citadel. It would have been great to get more into the everyday city life of a medieval character such as him. :)

I'd like to learn more about the Dwarves.
Sure, there was pretty much the entire Hobbit, the Dwarves & Men in PoME, The Line of Durin in the LotR Appendices, and Gimli in Lord of the Rings, but that was pretty much all about the Longbeards. Apart from the occasional reference in The Silmarillion, the Broadbeams and Firebeards are rarely mentioned. And the other four clans are seldom spoken of.

I am one of those 'optimistic ones' as well, Eledhwen. I think that would be a much happier conclusion to the whole Ent/Entwife problem, and not altogether improbable!

Seems like one unfinished part of the story there ...the ents/entwives. Maybe the good professor left it a mystery on purpose?

It would seem probable that they (the entwives) would be in the shire. At least to me.

Treebeard mentioning to Merry and Pippin to keep an eye out for the ents back home could be a clue...and the moving tree in the shire correlates with that very much.

Ents and dragons intruige me very much.

Gandalf, Olorin the Maia, greypilgrim (etc.)...is another character I'd like to know more about! He's my hero. :)

Being we have him as a mod on this forum, I'd like to know more about the Squint-eyed Southerner.

I came across this on a random google search which appears to be from a Middle-earth encyclopedia site that from what I can tell was abandoned in the wake of the Hobbit movies. The whole wizardry of Saruman intermingling orcs and men must of had some with just a little oce (Squint-eyed Southerner) and those with more orc and man (Lurtz).

Man of Dunland acting as an agent for Saurman during the War of the Ring. The squint-eyed Southerner's true name remains unknown. It was rumored that he was part-Orc. If this was the case, the squint-eyed Southerner was likely the result of one of Saruman's cross-breading experiments between Orcs and men. Even if this was the case, it is known that the squint-eyed Southerner lived in Dunland for a time and was driven out and deemed an outlaw by other Dunlendings. The squint-eyed Southerner was very valuable to Saruman.

The squint-eyed Southerner frequented the Shire on behalf of Saruman. The squint-eyed Southerner and other agents of Saurman bought pipe-weed for their master and also collected information from the Hobbits. They were told to do this because Saruman knew that Gandalf frequented the Shire, and he was suspicious that this had something to do with the One Ring.

Whilst on his way to the Shire in September of 3018, the squint-eyed Southerner was confronted by the Witch-King. The Witch-King demanded to know the location of the Shire and where he might be able to find a Baggins. The squint-eyed Southerner feared for his life, so he told all that he knew to the Witch-King. Now, rather than being an agent of Saruman, the squint-eyed Southerner was an agent for the Witch-King.
The Witch-King sent the squint-eyed Southerner to Bree. There, he met a man named Bill Ferny who he would stay with and from whom he hoped to receive information.

On September 29, Bill Ferny and the Southerner went into the Prancing Pony. There they witnessed Frodo Baggins disappear after placing the One Ring onto his finger. The squint-eyed Southerner reported this to the Nazgul, and they attacked the inn that night. Frodo and his companions were kept safe by Aragorn. The next morning, the Hobbits saw the Southerner lurking at Bill Ferny's house.

In 3019, the majority of Saruman's men were rallied and sent to overtake the Shire. It is unknown it the squint-eyed Southerner took part in these events. It is not known what ultimately became of him.
