What didnt you like about Peter Jackson Hobbit movies?

Dang! I missed that one!
But I should have caught the practical impossibility of any statement starting with "all of the people" - at least outside of hermetically isolated, brainwashed sects, which Abe certainly didn't mean. Makes me wonder why he used such a statement. Not even Hitler, Stalin or Mao managed an "all of the people". And at least those trying to fool the others tend not to be fooled; though their even fooling themselves can never be discounted.

It is easier to say what I liked about these movies. . .

  • Martin Freeman as Bilbo - He did a wonderful job portraying the younger Bilbo.
  • Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield - He did a wonderful job portraying the character.
  • The White Council scene. Cate looked much more 'Galadrielish' here than in Lord of the Rings.
  • The free movie, food, and drink provided at the theatre for the advance premiere showing of the 1st movie, despite seeing it in the 48fps 3D format.
  • The free movie and pizza provided at the advance premiere showing of the 2nd movie.
  • The free movie and popcorn at the advance premiere showing of the 3rd movie.
  • When the movies were over.
  • The fact I spent $0 on these movies. The next time I ever saw any of them was a segment I happened to tune into when it was showing on a free-to-air broadcast channel.

I had to ask myself the question a lot from the middle of the 1st movie onward to the ending of the 3rd movie... Is this a Joke?

I didn't like that songs were only in the first movie. I find songs the best part in the book. I didn't like orcs.
I seem to be the only one here who loves those movies. Though the book is much better than any adaptations.

No, not the only one.
I've got a very relaxed attitude to all the PJ movies, both the Hobbit trilogy and the LoTR movies. I'll relish the new Gollum movie in the same way.
Couldn't tell you how many times I watched the movies in the cinema, or the times I've watched the extended editions on dvd.
The trick is to think of these films almost as PJ's Tolkien fanfic; give him a lot of leeway as to any adherence to the text and let it all wash over you.

I think PJ said somewhere that he needed to show the Dwarves as individuals; maybe the different styles of beard was one way of dooing this?

They weren't long enough.
Maybe there's a super-extended version out there, waiting for a suitable anniversary release...
 
I didn't like comparing the movies to the books.
It just didn't work.
So I decided on another angle of approach to them.
That worked better.
 
Like many people, I didn't like the Tauriel/Kili romance, especially not with it turning into a sort of love triangle with Legolas. I love a good romance, but this was not it. Aside from my personal distaste of the romance, I also agree with the guys on the Prancing Pony Podcast, who pointed out that all Elf/human romances in the books were a big deal, so this Elf/dwarf romance diminishes them. The guys also said there might not even be biological compatibility between Elves and Dwarves. Whereas Elves are actually the same biological species as humans, just taller, stronger, fairer, immortal and all that.

Romance aside though, I actually didn't mind Tauriel's existence. Since this is an adaptation, I didn't expect it to be perfectly accurate to the books, and so I didn't mind the inclusion of a female warrior Elf when I watched the movies.

What I do mind, though, is when Tauriel tries to steal my identity! 😡

Or maybe, just being really mad that he didn't get to do 3 movies per book for TLOTR... we might have had a Bombadil, a better Galadriel, less playing around with Boromir/ Faramir and a better sense of "Elder Days" ... the second and first age..

Tauriel, giant worms, extending the series unnecessarily into three movies, romance between whichever dwarf it was and Tauriel (can’t remember, haven’t watched in so long), and I’m sure many other things I can’t think of right now because I don’t mind blocking these movies out of memory.
