hobbits

Greetings to All Here, I am a decades-long admirer of the incomparable creative genius of J.R.R. Tolkien, having read his Middle-Earth works avidly and repeatedly over many years and also have consumed not just the Peter Jackson productions but also the NPR/Mind’s Eye and BBC audio...

Someone online told me. That Christopher Tolkien sorta said Tolkien was inconsistent about some of his stories. And so he wrote The Hobbit as a response to that. Or am i wrong? But if true. Then thats kinda amazing ^^

I have recently found myself rewatching some of Tolkien's interviews and in one for the BBC he states that "having already constructed the world, they (hobbits) became drawn into it". I wonder if there has been any discussion on how to fit hobbits into the narrative of creation and the coming...

On my current re-read of LOTR, I'm tracking the various times that Frodo or any of the other hobbits have a dream, or a vision. I have always noticed partway through that they seem to keep having them. Especially Frodo. RIght now I'm nearing the end of Book 1 - several pages into "A Knife in...

On Antiques Roadshow.

Well. (sniff.) I don't see this has a thread of its own, though there's a lot of trivia everywhere scattered about. But as the Lord of the Rings has its own trivia thread, maybe this can have one? Anyway, I found it interesting Peter Jackson based his Rhosgobel Rabbits on the Flemish Giants...

Netflix will soon own the film rights to Both Narnia and Middle-earth. How are we feeling? CL

I was leafing through my copy of 'The Book of Lost Tales II' earlier and was really struck by its cover - It's a picture by Roger Garland of the Fall of Gondolin and shows the Walls of Gondolin being attacked by Tolkien's earlier 'mechanical' dragons and a swarm of orcs coming out of the...

Today is Hobbit Day! I listened to some of the soundtrack from the LOTR movies and will read some of the appendices in LOTR later.

Looks like a simple tabletop dice game of Bilbo's journey is coming out in October.

If he were to try out Tolkien world of hobbits? You might know him as a game developer for Bethesda studios. (Also liked the recent Indiana Jones game aswell that he was involved in making)

Hello everyone! I haven't posted a lot (because I read almost 24/7) but I was wondering what your opinion was on who the cutest hobbit is!

... Particularly by hobbits! I've already begun to discuss this with Squint-Eyed Southerner in PMs. I'm curious as to whether there's any record of watches being used in Middle-Earth. I can imagine men using them, and maybe hobbits, since there was bound to be a few days in the year where it...

Why in the, Hobbit: The unexpected journey, does Bilbo say that Thorin was there when Smoug came to Erebor, but in the Desolation of Smoug they say that they just heard tales of it?

So we know that Bombadil somehow knew that the hobbits were 'wandering' and that 'all paths lead to Withwindle. Old grey Willow-man, he's a mighty singer; and it's hard for little folk to escape his cunning mazes' (In the House of Tom Bombadil). So obviously Tom will be waiting for them by Old...

I am hypoglycemic and I have to have meals every three to four hours. Which is very similar to hobbits. as an aside; I've been thinking about calling my own small meals similar names. Elevenses is fun to say. I was just wondering if there was any sort of passage to suggest such.

Does anyone know if it is possible to combine all of the hobbit family trees (Bagginses, Gamgees, Brandybucks, Tooks, Bolgers, Hornblowers...) into one? I have tried and found this very difficult as they constantly intersect at different points (i.e. a Baggins at one side of the tree marries a...

Hi everyone! I'm new here and wanted to join a safe space to nerd about Tolkien's works (which I hope it is). Anyway, I created a playlist on Spotify based on the lotr and the hobbit (mainly the films) that captures their aesthetic. I would love to add any of you to the playlist to create a...

I've started listening to all the official soundtracks of Jackson movies, and by far Isengard Unleashed is my favorite. What about you?
