What if The Lord of the Rings films were made in the '60s?

How 'bout for the Things Of Power show then oops I mean Rings
🐾

Lorre would be the perfect Gollum.
Here he was in 1962:

More suitable for a hobbit. And as Mr. O pointed out, it would have to be a very early 60s movie, since two years later he was dead. I'd nominate Michael J. Pollard.

Now I'll admit that when movie rumors were floating around back then, I suggested him for Aragorn, but I'm pretty sure it was a joke.

Pretty sure . . . 🤔

It's from this:

An entry in Roger Corman's Poe cycle, it's a trilogy of shorts, shot -- typically for him -- in three weeks. Lorre appeared in the "comedy" of the three segments, so yes, Price hammed it up even more than usual, but so did Lorre. All three were written by SF writer Richard Matheson, best known for his post-apocalyptic zombie/vampire novel I Am Legend.

BTW, the final project in the cycle, "The Tomb of Ligeia" is IMO the best, and in fact one of my favorite movies. Price was apparently impressed enough by Robert Townsend's script that he played his part completely straight, a rarity for him.

Eh, I'd prefer LoR be animated anyway, so Lorre's voice would be perfect 😁

Thanks... I'll look it up. I like to watch Price play it straight.
Off topic (so what else is new with Deimos?🙄) and I may have mentioned it elsewhere, but sometime watch the noir thriller Laura... Price has a lesser role, and plays it straight. Maybe he was just getting started in his career.
BUT Laura is definitely worth watching. Clifton Webb is at his biting sarcastic best, and a bit creepy too.

Yes, he said his later horror work for Corman and William Castle was to fund his art collecting.
