In the first book Merry and Pippin get caught in a tree and Tom Bombadill shows up what do you think would have happend if he didnt show up and save them

Pip and Merry would end up dead and I guess the rest would also die because the forest was very aggrssive.

I think that Frodo and Sam would make it out because Sam never fell asleep and if he never did that is what would save them

I think they would have burned the tree down like they were planning on. They could then tell the tree that if he didn't let them go they'd burn him down. Since the hobbits would die anyways, burning the tree wouldn't be putting them at risk.

I guess that the story had been ruined:-/ But if Frodo and Sam had gotten to Rivendel withouth the others, Elrond would probably send someone from his household.

They would not burn the tree, because that would kill Merry and Pippin and they couldn't do that. I suppose other trees would have attacked Frodo and Sam and they all would have died horribly... or maybe someone else would have rescued them.

Yes, perhaps Tulkas would descend down from Aman and save M-E. ;)
But how would the trees 'attack' Frodo and Sam, exactly? They couldn't move around, after all, they could just move their limbs like roots and branches.
Anyway, I think Frodo and Sam might have made it out of the Old Forest, but they would be so worn out and desperate that the Nazgûl would sense their insecurity and swoop down on them.

Ya, probably Merry and Pippin would be stuck in the tree and might not get out. But, if one of them, if Tom bombadill didn't show up, (Sam, Frodo) had a hatchet or somthing then maybe they would get out? i dont know that is just what Tolkien wanted i guess. He probably wouldn'yt have put in the part about the tree if Tom didn't arrive.

No way they were going to died, i mean there would be no story left. If Tom hadn´t showed up, someone else would have (as Pontifex says maybe Tulkas), even in my personal opinion i find it really difficult to have a Valar in LOTR.

Who would have been that person I have no idea, but one thing i am sure is that thier death (Sam and Frodo) would have never happen.

nuh uh. Ya they maybe be pretty usless, but when Tolkien had them go so he wouldn't have them just die! Geez, what a positive thinker!

If no one saved them, and all of them died, the ring would probably have been quickly found by the Nazgul, who already were looking for "Baggins, Shire". They probably would have found out about the hobbits going into the Old Forest, or guessed it. Being wraiths, the most the trees could do is kill their horses. It may have taken them a while to find the rings, because they are more drawn to it when frodo is wearing it, but through tracking them, they probably would have found it.

They all die, ring stays in Tom's Realm. Some day Toms finds and think:"That's a nice ring", plays with it for awhile, gets bored with it and then tosses it to the road. Hmmm...I wonder who will pick it up.......
