First, I want to say that I think I'm starting too many new threads and most of them are boring or/and ridiculous... Sorry :(

Anyway, the point of this thread is that Frodo didn't succeeded in his mission, did he? It was Gollum (the Hero) who came and saved the day :D

So, the question is that who do you think would have succeeded?
You can choose anyone that lived in Middle-Earth at that time, not only the members of the fellowship of the ring.

My you like these Gollum questions! YayGollum will be pleased with you grasshopper:D .

Mabey you should put all of these kinds of questions into one thread from now on... Ones that have to do with Gollum, destroying the Ring, and the Hero of Middle Earth. But I'm not entirely sure cuz I'm not a Mod!

Anyways I thought Sam could have done it. He was the only person, I thought, that really cared and took heed to the well-being of the quest. Sam pretty much cared for him and Frodo starting about when they were in Ithilien. He carried Frodo up Mt.Doom for crying out loud!

What do you mean by - the only one to care?? I think he didn`t care as much for the quest as for Frodo`s well-being. He was just doing everything to help his master. But in theory he`d have been able to destroy the Ring.

I wouldn't say that Frodo was unsuccessful. Rather - he succeded 99% of the journey and failed in the last 1%. And it's hard to find any substitue ringbearer...Sam is an obvious choice but who knows how he would have fared on the long tedious journey. How long would Sam have held out after being stabbed?

When Frodo wasn't going to throw the ring in, I think that Sam would have grabbed it and he would throw it in. I don't think that Gollum is the hero, because he bit Frodo's finger off and then he was jumping around, and slipped in and died. Corrected me if I'm wrong.

I shall. The evil sam wouldn't have been able to save the day since he was pretty far away when Frodo went invisible. Anyways, why wouldn't Gollum get to be called the hero just because of the way he saved the day? You don't think that there are such things as accidental heroes? Even though we don't know what poor Smeagol was thinking at the time. oh well. Yes. I gots to get to the real question. We're deciding who we think would have the strength to destroy the One Ring if Gollum the Hero wasn't around to do it? I can't think of anybody. Oh. Okay. Tom Bombadil. *sigh* I wish the Gollum Fan Club was still around. *bawls*

OK, thanks, I haven't read the RotK in a year, so I'm not fresh. I forgot that Gollum knocked Sam out, and he was at the door.

I don't think anyone could've done it. . .

The stronger someone was the more attractive the ring would've been to him. . .Aragorn would've eventually sucumbed, probably faster than Frodo because he would've had confidence that he could've used it for good and used it too much. . .the draw would be stronger. Same with Gandalf and Elves.

The weaker someone was the quicker he would fall due to being warn down, or the quicker they would've become wraithlike. . .

So, Frodo did pretty well. I think it was truly impossible. They probably would've needed a tag team. . .which is basically what happened.

I would have to agree with BlackCaptain, that if the ring had to be destroyed any other way, I think Sam would have been able to do it. He wouldn't be as quick to sumbit to the power of the ring because he's just a humble hobbit.. sort of what HLGStrider was saying about how the stronger the person is, the more attracted he would be to the ring. But, that's just my opinion. Maybe it couldn't have been done any other way.
