Why did Dominic Monaghan call Merry "gay" on TRL?

Did anyone see TRL yesterday? Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd were on it to promote ROTK. It was funny because Dominic said "Merry is so gay". I don't know why he said that though.

It is simple. All the hobbits seem like gays. And the relationship between Frodo/Sam and Merry/Pippin are so strong that most of my friends are making fun of them saying they are gays actually .

I don't think it is so funny actually, but who cares about my opinion?Only me!
:D

I agree, I think they all have a strong relationship but they aren't necessarily gay. My cousin always says Frodo and Sam are gay especially when Sam tells Frodo at the end of TTT "It's me, your Sam". I disagree though.

Maybe he meant "Gay" in the other way, you know happy, but I doubt it..And no it wasn't really funny..

Frodo and Sam are not gay. What is with people? Just because they are incapable of very strong friendships, they go ridiculing something they will never understand. Merry is gay. He is a very happy-merry-gay hobbit.

I am not saying they are gays. But their relationships are so strong that most of my friends and even some magazines make fun of them.
:) ;)

TRL is so passe. Nobody here watches it anymore. We grew out of TRL and MTV when we stopped liking those yucky boy bands!

Rock out to Punk and Metal! VH1!

Sam and Frodo's bond defies the clichéd view of natural "masculine" relationships. Therefore the media, being the people they are, will jump on it to humour the macho readers (or Male readers in general) up for a laugh at the "poncy" Frodo and Sam. These views, of course in now way reflect my own, though I do on occasion find Sam’s over-reverence of his master rather outlandish.

Dominic may have said that "Merry is so gay"...to get the attention of the TRL audiences. Because, it seems that recently "Gay" and "Homosexual" references have become the "New Chic" in todays pop culture.

*in my best Jerry Seinfield voice*
But hey! There is nothing wrong with that! ;)

Because that is what Merry is in LOTR. He's a hobbit. He takes matters lightly, and he is cheerful.

Well I have friends with the same qualities and they arnt gays. But after all this is your opinion, everyone can see the characters in a diffrent way. Some think that Frodo is gay, other dont. Some think Merry is gay, other not.

drjekil_bg,you probably misunderstood what 33Peregrin said.

Peregrin meat someting else using the word "gay"

adj 1: bright and pleasant; promoting a feeling of cheer; "a cheery hello"; "a gay sunny room"; "a sunny smile" [syn: cheery, sunny]

2: full of or showing high-spirited merriment; "when hearts were young and gay"; "a poet could not but be gay, in such a jocund company"- Wordsworth; "the jolly crowd at the reunion"; "jolly old Saint Nick"; "a jovial old gentleman"; "have a merry Christmas"; "peals of merry laughter"; "a mirthful laugh" [syn: jocund, jolly, jovial, merry, mirthful]

3: given to social pleasures often including dissipation; "led a gay Bohemian life"; "a gay old rogue with an eye for the ladies

5: offering fun and gaiety; "a gala ball after the inauguration"; "a festive (or festal) occasion"; "gay and exciting night life"; "a merry evening" [syn: gala(a), festal, festive, merry]

Actually I think all these explanations define in a way the hobbit lifestyle :) ;) p)

I understand now.i am sorry 33Peregrin for missunderstood.Gil-Galad 10x for the explanation
