Awakening of the Elves

Long before the Sun first rose in heaven in the late First Age of Middle-earth, occurred the Awakening of the Elves in the far east Cuivienen, which transpired after Varda ceased in creating the superfluous stars in the night sky. She left the Valar’s council and was frightened that the Firstborn would reach in darkness and that it would be easy for Melkor to overthrow them.

Legend

The canonicity of these details are unknown
Eru lluvatar awakened the first Elves in Cuivienen near the bay, according to a legend of the Elves. Imin was the first Elf to awake. Iminye who is next to him who would become his wife. Tata, who was near Imin, was the second to awoke, and Tatie, and Enel, and Enelye were the third to awoke. Walking across the forests were Imin, Enel, and Tata, and their wives joined them. Imin being the eldest, claimed the first six pairs of Elves came as his people and woke them. Soon, Imin and his people continued their journey together with Tata and Enel. Tata, the second eldest, claimed as his people the next nine pairs of Elves came. Soon, the now thirty-six Elves continued their journey. Enel, the third eldest, claimed as his people found the twelve pairs of Elves.

The now sixty Elves lived by the rivers for many days and commenced to formulate music and poetry. Eventually, they head off again, but Imin conceived the idea to himself that he be the last to choose since each time they had established more Elves, and that his folk also size the least. Tata added to his folk the eighteen pairs of Elves they came across who were watching the stars, because Imin told Tata and Enel that he would wait, though the latter waited for the former to claim. Afterward, they were the fathers of most of the Noldor. They had dark hair and were tall.

While they continued their journey, the ninety-six Elves developed many new words and now spoke with each other. Imin offered the choice when they found the next twenty-four pairs of Elves, who were singing without language, but he refused. Thus, Enel picked them as his people, wherein most of the Lindar or singers of later times came from them. Now the hundred and forty-four Elves lived long together until all had educated the same speech, and they were delighted. Nonetheless, Imin alleged that it was time to seek more colleagues for him, but the majority were content and did not adhere to him. Consequently, they searched long near Cuivienen with Imin and Iminye and their twelve companions who head off alone but never found any more folks. Twelve turned out to be the number they counted because the Elves were initiated in groups of twelve, and one hundred and forty-four was their highest number for long.

None of their tongues was there, hence a few shared names for a larger number. The companions of Imin or the Eldest Company, later Vanyar, remained the smallest group which was numbered fourteen, After the tale of the Awakening of the Elves. The companions of Tata, where half of it became the Noldor, numbered fifty-six and stayed the second-largest folks. Number seventy-four were the largest folks, the Companions of Enel, later the Teleri or Lindar. The first to discover the Awakening was Melkor. He later starts sending evil spirits among the Elves, who rooted seeds of doubt against the Valar. A gossip spread that a Rider incarcerates some Elves if wandered too far, and the Elves afterward were believed to be transported to Utumno and twisted into Orcs. One day, Orome came across the Elves and recognized who they were. Due to the lies of Melkor, the Elves initially were suspicious of Orome, frightened that he was the Rider who arrested the Elves. On the other hand, the three lords of the Elves decided to go Valinor with Orome. These were Finwe of the Tatyar later Noldor, Ingwe of the Minyar later Vanyar, and Elwe of the Lindar. Finally, Elwe, Finwe, and Ingwe headed back to Cuivienen and informed the Elves of Valinor’s Glory, and that there happened the Sundering of the Elves.

On the Great Journey to the West, the majority of the Lindar, half of the Tatyar, and all the Minyar, were convinced to follow Orome. Orome provided them in their language, and these were recognized later by the name Eldar or “Star folk”. Mere refusal to leave for the remainder or rest of Lindar and Tatyar from their land in possession, and slowly spreading throughout the vast lands of Middle-earth, remained dubious. Because they declined the summons, they were later known as Avari, which means “the Unwilling ''. Hence, in Quenya, Eldar’s language finally reached Valinor. Written as part of Quendi and Eldar, the tale of Enel, Imin, and Tata, known as Cuivieyarna. Ingwe, Elwe, and Finwe replace them who became the first ambassadors and Kings of the Elves in exile.
