Bain, born in the year TA 2925 of the Third Age, was the Prince of Dale.
Biography
Bain succeeded his father, the famous Bard the Bowman, as King in T.A. 2977. Bain's reign lasted for thirty years, and he ruled the territories in the south of the Lonely Mountain. [1] During his regime, Bain, along with a group of Dwarves, left Erebor to recapture Moria. He is well known for the various party gifts he ordered during his leadership for use at Bilbo's Farewell Birthday Party held in TA 3001. Brand, the son of Bain, succeeded to the throne in T.A. 3007, after his father's death. He captured the regions east of Esgaroth and far to the south. Bard smuggles Bilbo Baggins and Thorin and Company with the help of his son Bain and his daughters. The Dwarves recall the Sack of Erebor and the incident when Smaug was assaulted by Lord Girion using Black Arrows. On hearing this, Bain recalls a similar incident wherein Girion attacked Smaug and knocked one of his scales. The Dwarves fail to believe Bain. In the meantime, Bard discovers Thorin's true identity, and the Dwarves plan on a raid to the armory. Bard gives asylum to Fili, Oin, Bofur, and Kili, who was too sick from Morgul poison when the Dwarves march towards the Lonely Mountain with the Lake-Towners. As night sets in, the Dragon awakens. Bard tells his son about the one last Black Arrow he had. On their way to the Master's mansion where the Dwarish’s wind lance was, Bain wants to know why he kept the Black Arrow a secret. Bard replies that he didn't expect Bain to know. The town guard searches for Bard and arrests him. Just before his imprisonment, as ordered by the Master of Lake-town, Bard instructs his son to conceal the arrow. Bain safeguards his sisters as best as he can when Laketown is under attack. He helps Legolas, FĂli, Bofur, KĂli, Ă“in, and Tauriel fight against the Borg's Orcs. Infuriated by the act of the Dwarves of Erebor, Smaug, the Dragon awakens and sets out to destroy Lake-town.
The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies
Smaug launches an attack on Laketown, which was under the realms of Bard. Bain, Bard, Sigrid, Tilda, Tauriel, and the Dwarves try to evacuate the burning Lake-town. Bard successfully escapes the fire and launches an attack on Smaug from the rooftops of the highest tower. But to his distress, he runs out of arrows. Bain, who goes into hiding in Dale's rubble along with his sisters, notices his father in trouble. Bain, feeling dejected seeing Bard's futile attempt against the Dragon, delivers the Black Arrow hid in a boat to his father. Bard, a highly-skilled archer, builds a crossbow with the ruins of the tower. Using Bain's shoulder as a base, Bard launches an arrow into the weakest spot of Smaug, his chest. In the meantime, Bain stays calm and robust as instructed by his dad. Smaug, the Fire-drake, marches forward, mocking the father and son duo. The arrow launched by Bard does not miss its target, hits Smaug, who tumbles down in between the blazing houses. Smaug's attempt to stand up on his feet goes futile, and he dies crushing Laketown. At the end of the Battle, both the father and son survive. In this Battle, Bain proves himself as a brave prince and later participates in Dale's Siege.
