Berethor is a warrior from Gondor, a primary hero among the six protagonists in "The Lord of the Rings: Third Age" [1] video game. He journeys along with Boromir, Minas Tirith's Captain of the Guard, battling in the game's quest. "The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II" [2] also features Berethor and his party as default in-game characters. The party includes Idrial, Hadhod, and Morwen.

Biography

"The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age" does not include Berethor's youth and origin story.

Eregion (First Chapter)

Rivendell Quest

The gameplay opens at the beginning of the Third Age, with Berethor traveling to Rivendell to join Boromir. The council meets with Boromir in the gathering. Meanwhile, the Nazgul who were hunting Boromir encounters Berethor and attacks. Berethor battles valiantly, but the Nazgul injure and defeat him. As they kill him with a final strike, Idrial arrives, saving him from the Nazgul through a water spell. She restores him through Elvish healing, and Berethor awakens pledging a favor for saving his life. They continued to the passing point of Rivendell, where Berethor completely recovers and prepares for the rest of the journey.

Mountain path

As Berethor and Idrial travel through the mountain's gorge, they encounter a woodsman named Elegost. Together they fight all the Orcs and Wargs on their path in the mountain. An Orc from Mordor and its pack took a map from Elegost, and the three set out to hunt them. Berethor doubted Elegost at the beginning, and Elegost did too. But Idrial vouched for Berethor's character and swore by the Lady of Light. The party saved the Elven shrines from destruction and retrieved the map. Afterward, they proceed down the mountain to find Elegost's Dwarf comrade.

Moria Quest

They left the mountain, and Elegost pursues his comrade's trail. Their party discovers him fighting in a standstill with a troll. The group overcomes the troll only through Berethor's weapon. They accompany the Fellowship of the Ring and head into Moria.

Second Chapter (West Moria)

The Entryway and Platforms

The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age.The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age.
They confront the Watcher twice, outside the entryway, and upon the Fellowship's entrance to Moria. From outside the entrance, the Watcher grows furious and ruins the blockage on the passage to Moria. Hence the party combined with the Fellowship enters Moria and escapes. Hadhod is troubled with Moria once they were inside and wished to tear down the dark place. Then, the Watcher attacks again, but the party finally destroys it. Hadhod used his fire spell, and Idrial her water charm, during the two encounters. Elegost destroys the monster with his fierce arrows. Afterward, they arrive in a cavern within Moria and found a chest. It contains a rare rune belonging to the seven runes of old, known to point to an immense treasure. When they reached the platforms, they encounter and defeat a chieftain of the Shadow Goblins. Then Elegost and Hadhod find a map to Moria's massive Mithril abyss. Later the company of Berethor heads to the Necropolis, wiping out Goblins on their path. Contrary to the Fellowship, Berethor's group readily moved to the deep caves determined to unmask the mysteries of Moria. Lead by Hadhod, the company took its time and successfully crossed the cavern.

The Correct Passage and Necropolis

The group of Berethor reaches a great necropolis and explores the minute rooms of the grand hallways. They found two additional old runes and mostly Goblin snares, but the company overcomes all of them. Then they reach the crossway which the Fellowship encountered prior. They discuss how they will proceed, then took a rest. They settle on the correct passage, a descent. This passage goes to the Moria's massive Mithril abyss. The Fellowship notices an exit from afar. Having found a chest with one more rune, they went further to exit. On their way, a corpse of a goblin suddenly drops from up high before them. Gandalf reprimands Pippin far above the Halls of Mazarbul. [3] Meanwhile, Idrial finds the key to Moria's Throne Hall on the body. Then, the Balrog suddenly emerges from the deep. It destroyed the passage towards the way out, and this calls the Goblin's attention. Six goblins encircle the party and attack, but the party endures. Heading back to the Necropolis, they encountered the goblins four times. They realized Moria's tremendous danger, yet they are determined to traverse more of its mysteries.

Throne Hall

From the Necropolis, the party takes the left passage. It brought them to a massive cave with towering walls and soaring ceilings, with a dark abyss and a great bridge extending over it. As they traverse the bridge, the Goblins pursue them. They reach the connecting chamber with more Goblins attacking them. Afterward, they find another old rune and the party heads to the Throne Hall. The Throne Hall reveals a group of Goblins that includes a combatant, an archer, and a strong Goblin mage called Moria's Goblin Shadow Commander. The party defeats the Goblin group. Then, they discover the Book of Secrets through the key they retrieved from the Goblin corpse. They also found an old doorway with signs etched on it, and inside is another key for a secured, old door. The party continues to the next chamber and discovers another rune and the final ax of Erebor taken by the Goblins. They survived another attack, cross the massive cave, and securely returned to the vast tombs.

The Left Passage (Tomb of the Ancients)

One way remains undiscovered by the party of Berethor, and so they head to the left passage. Then they discovered the last old rune and a monumental grave. Many Goblins appeared, but the party killed every one of them. They uncover the vault through the ancient runes and find a door inside on the left. Idrial utters the incantation from the Book of Secrets, opening the door. The party continues towards the halls of Dwarrowdelf.

Dwarrowdelf

As they observe the grandeur of the medieval chambers, the battle with the Goblins continue. They uncover many troves of riches. The path goes on and reaches the door of Balin's mausoleum. The party proceeds but five Goblins attack. An intense battle ends with the party emerging victorious, killing the Goblins.

East Moria

Balin's Tomb

The party of Berethor proceeds to the forsaken crypt of Balin, chasing one Goblin who fled. It suddenly appears before them and about to begin a fight. Then the Balrog abruptly enters crashing the tomb's east walls. The party swiftly conceals themselves as the Balrog crushes the Goblin. Afterward, it continues seeking Gandalf, and the party safely escapes. Idrial urges the party to search and warn Gandalf.

Through the Dwarrowdelf

The party of Berethor moves on, reaching the far end door of the hall of Dwarrowdelf. [4] They started to converse about the Balrog's absolute strength as they run from countless Goblins. They continued fighting enemies on the way. After crossing the span of the hall, they pass over and reaching a great abyss with narrow connecting paths.

The Great Abyss

The party crosses the abyss, crushing all Goblins in the way. Hadhod swears to clear out all the filth of Moria determinedly, and Idrial assures him of her cooperation in doing so. An archer shoots them, and the party terminates the Goblin right before he calls the rest of the legion. Soon after, Idrial accidentally slips while crossing the ravine, and Berethor rescues her from falling to the depths. They ascended the stair path towards the next section of Dwarrowdelf.

Goblin's Assault

Later on, the Fellowship continues to see an alternate passage to exit Moria. They devastated Goblin hordes and rites on their path. However, one of their main trials is in a primeval Balrog shrine in which a Shadow Commander performs a ceremony for the Balrog. But the Fellowship steadily battles, overcomes the enchanter, and continues their quest. Then they encountered a Goblin calling out hordes of the deep, through a drum. They kill the drummer and continue towards the primeval tomb of the Goblins. The party of Berethor proceeds to an old Goblin hall, killing numerous Goblins and collecting their plunders.

The Exit from Moria and Fight against the Balrog

The party continues to look forward with enhanced determination, as they cross the abyss through the Bridge of Khazad-dum. There, they find the Balrog and Gandalf fighting fiercely. They rush to help the wizard, seeing they could only sustain Gandalf as their powers are incomparable to the Balrog. The wizard continuously strikes the Balrog through the "Bolt of the Valar" with the party's aid. After an extensive battle, Gandalf eventually overcomes the Balrog, although the two opponents plunge into the depths of the abyss. The party rush to the exit. And at last, they leave the relentless Goblins and dark chambers of Moria.

Skills

Berethor is the head of the party. Because of this, he is the only character in the company with an ability for Leadership. Sword Craft is Berethor's main strength. It lets him strike with increasing intensity, adding more to his excellent power. Berethor also gains several swords during the game. His weapons possess sword specific capabilities such as the Biting Blade and Weeping Blade. Both of these powers compensate for his regular strikes. First, Biting Blade absorbs the energy lost by his opponent through his attack. He gains them as health increase just as the "Drain Health" ability of Eaoden. On the other hand, Weeping Blade inflicts injury consistently with every turn. Both Biting Blade and Weeping Blade's abilities also compensate for his counter hits.
