Huge, wild creatures that belonged to Mordor, Caragors resembled Warg, and were known to be incredibly aggressive. They were the top predators in the realm and could not be tamed easily. Their size and appearance were much like the Wargs, but the skin was somewhat rough with no hair, and they had jagged spiked backs. [1] Tolkien did not create these creatures. They were introduced in the game âMiddle-Earth â Shadow of Mordorâ and its sequel.
Attributes
Caragors were terrifying in nature and moved on the land of Mordor to search for prey. They often travel in groups to attack bigger prey like Graugs and Trolls. The more powerful and bigger types of Caragors, Dire Caragors, generally lead these groups. They have strong legs that help them climb and sprint well. They also have powerful jaws that they use to cut through bones like weapons. They tend to attack competing predators like Wargs as they see them. Another sub-species of Caragors was Caragaths known for being a stealthier type. Caragors were either killed by the Orcs of Mordor or caged to escape from them. They were quite stubborn and resisted training. They could not be domesticated. However, some skilled Orcs sometimes used to ride them through the kingdom. Talion could use his Wraith abilities to dominate Caragors and ride on them to get enhanced speed and movement, he could use his Bow and Sword sitting on the back of these creatures and command them to fight enemies. A combat-leap made from the back of Caragor proved to be lethal for enemies. When Caragor was dismounted, it remained friendly towards Talion and fought at his side. If a Dire Caragor is mounted, all the nearby Caragors would follow Talion and help him in the battle.
Adaptations
- In the game âMiddle Earth â Shadow of Mordorâ, the caragor is vicious and relentless. It is portrayed as the top predator in the realm of Mordor.
- Caragors are portrayed as Mordorâs Pack Predators in âMiddle Earth â Shadow of Warâ. They are great climbers and fast runners who could scale steep cliffs in search of prey.
- They were brave and rarely left combat until they or their enemy were dead. Some Uruks tried to capture and train Caragors for war, but they were so bad-tempered that it was a dangerous task for even the bravest Uruk.
Trivia
- Caragor means âRow of Teethâ in Sindarin.
- These creatures are often confused for Wargs that appear in âThe Lord of the Ringsâ.
- A Warg is comparable to a wolf while a Caragor to a lion.
- If a caragor is found along with a Nemeses, one should kill the caragor first or the Nemeses would get power and health from it. [2]
