Situated close to the northwestern shores of the Sea of Rhun, Dorwinion was a land in the valleys of Celdiun. It was enclosed by the River Running. The land was known to have majestic gardens and the finest wine all over Middle-Earth. The wine there was so intoxicating that it could even get the Elves drunk and put them to sleep.
Etymology
The name Dorwinion comes from the Sindarin word “dor” which means land and the Westron word “winion” which means wine.
History
The Elves of the Halls of Thranduil from Mirkwood, the Men in Dale and Lake Town, the Dwarves of the Iron Hills, and the Lonely Mountains, all imported quality wines from Dorwinion. Even though Dorwinion was located on the outskirts of the Rhun, by name it felt like the land was influenced by the Elves or the Gondorians. [1]
Description
Dorwinion featured fertile lands, mild temperature, and proximity to the Sea of Rhun, all of which made it the perfect place to cultivate an agrarian society. The people of the Dorwinion land were the descendants of Edain and they had close relationships with the Avari elves and the Northmen of Dale. [2]
