Down In Goblin Town

Down in Goblin Town was a song performed by the Orcs dwelling in the Goblin Town situated in the Misty Mountains of Angmar. This song was sung by giant, ugly, wicked, and bad-hearted Goblins when Thorin and Company were detained in Goblin Town after their capture. Thorin and Company were seized by the goblins when they were sleeping on the caves' western porch during their expedition to the Lonely Mountain. [1]

Lyrics

The actual lyrics of the song are as below,
Clap! Snap! the black crack!
Grip, grab! Pinch, nab!
And down, down to Goblin-town
You go, my lad!
Clash, crash! Crush, smash!
Hammer and tongs! Knocker and gongs!
Pound, pound, down underground!
Ho, ho! my lad!
Swish, smack! Whip crack!
Batter and beat! Yammer and bleat!
Work, work! Nor dare to shirk,
While Goblins quaff, and Goblins laugh,
Round and round far underground
Below, my lad!

Portrayal In Adaptations

The Hobbit Film Trilogy

This song is sung by the Goblin King in the movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), especially to frighten the captured dwarves when they were taken to the Great Goblin's cavern. The lyrics in the movie are as below:

Clap, snap, the black crack
Grip, grab, pinch, and nab
Batter and beat
Make 'em stammer and squeak!
Pound pound, far underground.
Down, down, down in Goblin Town

With a swish and smack
And a whip and a crack
Everybody talks when they're on my rack
Pound pound, far underground
Down, down, down to Goblin Town

Hammer and tongs, get out your knockers and gongs
You won't last long on the end of my prongs
Clash, crash, crush and smash
Bang, break, shiver, and shake

You can yammer and yelp.
But there ain't no help.
Pound pound, far underground.
Down, down, down in Goblin Town

A few additional lines sung by the Great Goblin around the end of the Goblin Town scene were:
"Bones will be shattered."
"Necks will be wrung."
"You'll be beaten and battered."
"From racks, you'll be hung."
"You will die down here and never be found."
"Down in the deep of Goblin-town!"

In the original soundtrack of The Hobbit dated 1977, it was the eighth track. The lyrics for The Hobbit Original Soundtrack are as below:

Swish, smack! Whip crack!
Smash, grab! Pinch, nab!
You go, my lad!
Ho, ho! my lad!

The black crack! The back crack!
The black crack! The back crack!
Down down to Goblin-town
Down down to Goblin-town
Down down to Goblin-town
You go, my lad!
Ho, ho! my lad!

Goblins quaff, and Goblins beat
Goblins laugh, and Goblins bleat
Batter, jabber, whip, and tavern hoooooo!
Below, my lad!
Ho, ho! my lad!

The black crack! The back crack!
The black crack! The back crack!
Down down to Goblin-town
Down down to Goblin-town
Down down to Goblin-town
You go, my lad!
Ho, ho! my lad!

The original soundtrack is based on the poem Clap! Snap! The black crack! As presented in the novel.
