Description
The Pelennor Fields, home to numerous peasants and herders, was spread across the west bank of river Anduin. The fields situated at the base of Mount Mindolluin boasted many slopes, terraces, and brooks flowing into the river. The farmlands were very fertile and tilled. The fields were filled with many orchards, barns, coops, farm animals, and kilns for drying hops and malt. There were many roads crossing the fields leading to different regions ofGondor. A twelve-mile-long road across the north-east of the Pelennor Fields led to the Causeway Forts on the banks of river Anduin. A road stretching from the southern territories of Gondor via the Pelennor fields led to Minas Tirith. On the northern side lies the Forannest, while the pathway on the westward became the Great West Road to Rohan.
History
The Pelennor fields were secured by the Rammas Echor, to prevent any ambush from Mordor after the fall of Minas Ithil also called Minas Morgul. The notable Battle of the Pelennor Fields was held during the War of the Ring. This battle was fought by Sauron's Orc and Easterling armies' in order to encircle the city by bringing down the Rammas Echor. The farmlands were completely evacuated and were fully engulfed in flames during the battle. It was on these farmlands the Théoden King and the Witch-King of Angmar, were defeated. However, the Ramos Echor was resurrected after the War of The Ring by the Dwarves of The Glittering Caves.
After The Battle
The farmlands were lush and green after the battle. The spot where Theoden’s horse was entombed, called Snowmane's Howe, was covered with grass. However, the spot where the Witch-king and his steed were slain had no grass and looked barren. [1] The residents of Gondor and Rohan assembled on the Pelennor Fields during the coronation of King Elessar on 1 May 3019.
Portrayal In Adaptations
