Skirmish in Balin's Tomb

Gandalf was reading a few sentences from the Book of Mazarbul when the ambush happened. The lines were depicting a scenario where the characters in the book are boxed in. The drums are rolling, and it seems like death is at their doorstep. It was deemed as the "Skirmish in Balin's Tomb," or the "Battle of the Chamber of Mazarbul." This was a bloody confrontation that happened with the Fellowship of the Ring and the Moria goblins. The goblins knew the Fellowship was around. So they gathered themselves for battle. Meanwhile, oblivious of this fact, Gandalf was engrossed in the horrific tale of how Balin went down, taking the inhabiting Dwarves with it. The tomb had two doors, one set in the east and the other on the west side of the tomb. They created a barrier at the western door to delay the goblin's ambush. The eastern gate was left open as a getaway. They were busy barricading the door when the goblins came upon them.

They went through a passage on the 21st hall. As the Fellowships got their weapons ready, Gandalf checked through the door to see the kind of enemies they were about to confront. He observed many goblins and a cave-troll. The cave-troll was violently taking down the door when Frodo stabbed its foot. It was the goblins who finally brought the door down with their hammers and battering rams. They charged at the Fellowship, who quickly put 13 of them out. The rest of the goblins retreated and ran away, horrified. In the confusion, Frodo got stabbed by the chief of the goblins who had suddenly rushed in. He was overcome and killed by Aragon and Sam. Luckily, the Mithril shirt protected Frodo from a fatal outcome. The Fellowship then went by their planned escape route. They got to the Bridge of Khazad-dum at the second hall.

The Backstory

How It All Started

The Fellowship of the Ring got to Moria. As they stood before the gates, they saw that one of them was written "Speak friend and enter." It was a riddle. So, Gandalf took to crack it. To occupy himself during the wait, Boromir tossed a rock. He was oblivious of the Watcher in the Water. The Watcher got rattled by the rock and emerged from the lake. It would have succeeded in grabbing Frodo had it not been shot by Legolas. The Fellowship got away, running further into the mountain. The provoked creature brought down the gates, closing them in. There was no other option left for the fellowship but to use the other available exit. On the other side of Mount Moria was the eastern gate. They had to march for three days to get there. They were on their way when they decided to rest in a guard room. There was a deep well nearby, and three passages that made a crossroads. Out of sheer curiosity, Pippin threw a rock into the well. That got to Gandalf's nerves. It was a foolish mistake because the echo alerted the Goblins to the presence of uninvited guests. After consulting among themselves, Gandalf decided that they should take the passage on their right. The passage led them through mines until they got to the 21st hall. Then, they got to the Chamber of Records, where Balin's tomb was located. It was while Gandalf was reading the records that many drum beats started rocking Moria. Then the Goblins started closing in on the Fellowship.

The Confrontation

Despite the Fellowship having barricaded the doors, the goblins, accompanied by a troll, broke through and quickly fell upon them. However, the troll gets wounded and backs off. Many Goblins also follow suit. The Fellowship sees this as a chance to get away by the Eastern gate. Just then, the chief of the Goblins comes upon them with a long spear at hand and stabs at Frodo's chest. Aragon kills him and carries Frodo away with him as they make their escape.

The Fellowship gets shocked when Frodo tells them that he never sustained any injuries. He showed them the mithril vest he had on that had shielded him from the fatal blow. They proceed after a short while, vacating Balin's tomb. They proceed, as they approach the Bridge of Khazad-Dum. The Fellowship finds themselves surrounded by the Goblins. They were about to fall upon them when a bellowing sound was sound. The Goblins immediately took to their heels.

It dawned on Gandalf that the goblins had run off as they were terrified of the Balrog. This was Morgoth's evil servant from days of old and had been awakened, aware of an unwelcome presence. The Balrog was able to break through the chamber's door that Gandalf had sealed, due to his great strength. The path they were on led them to a large chamber that revealed a fiery chasm within. That is when the drum beats were heard, and the Goblins joined the Balrog in going after the Fellowship. As the Fellowship got to the Bridge of Khazad-dum and were crossing it, they started getting shot at by archers from the goblin party. As the Balrog was catching up with them, Gandalf commanded everyone else to cross the bridge. He then turned to confront the Balrog.

The Balrog was intimidated by Gandalf's title and made as if to withdraw. However, he turned with a swerve of his molten sword, aiming to strike at Gandalf. This was met by Gandalf's shield of power. He proceeded to collapse the bridge where the Balrog stood. But as it fell into the abyss, it took Gandalf with him by grabbing him with its whip. The remaining Fellowship mourned for Gandalf and were filled with horror. But by Aragorn's and Boromir's leadership, they were on their way to Lothlorien, from the mines.

What is Picked Out From The Modification?

The Fellowship of the Ring from Peter Jackson's perspective

Gimli dares them to come as he is still the one dwarf in Moria who is still alive. In the movie The Fellowship of the Ring, [1] it is when Gandalf is through with the Book of Mazarbul that Pippin carelessly dislodges a body into the well resulting in loud sounds. The sound of drums can be heard. They are succeeded by awful Goblin noises. The Fellowship uses ancient axes as barricades for the door. Boromir informs them of the cave-troll with the Goblins. The goblins try to break the barrier using hammers and hew. At the same time, Aragon and Legolas are trying to shoot them through the cracks they are creating. The door gives way, and many goblins rush in. The Fellowship fights them until the troll brings down the troll and gets in the tomb. Legolas shoots at it several times, including at its head. The troll then focuses on Frodo, while the rest of the Fellowship are confronting the goblins. Aragon comes to Frodo's rescue and, with a large spear, stabs the troll. It thrusts him off and uses the spear to stab Frodo. Getting the impression that Frodo has been killed, Pippin and Merry jump on the toll's back. In the confusion that followed, Legolas can aim a killer shot inside the upper part of the troll's mouth. Frodo escapes the ordeal with no injury as the Mithril shirt he had on protected him. They get out of Balin's tomb and are approaching the Bridge of Khazad-Dum where they have to confront more enemies.
