As one of the Balrogs, Tar Goroth appeared as a secondary antagonist in the Middle Earth: Shadow of War.

History

In the battle of the First Age where the Dark Lord fought with the Valar, Tar Goroth served as a commander-general for Morgoth’s army. He gets destroyed by Carnan in the War of the Wrath and gets suspended into the fiery pits of Gorgoroth. Since Morgoth’s downfall, he has been lying in the same pit waiting for a final battle to seal the fate of Middle Earth. During the Third Age, darkness creeps back into the land of Mordor, and the forging of the New Ring by Bright Lord awakens Tar Goroth and brings him back from his slumber. His awakening gets noticed by Sauron and he sees a destructive potential that he can harness through the resurgence of the Balrog. Caressing his flames, Sauron sends his servant Zog to recruit Tar Goroth for the coming war. Rising from the molten flames, Goroth awakened to be an untameable force. Dodging every attempt to bring him under control, he goes on a rampage from Gorgoroth to Seregost and kills anyone who crosses his path. He escapes Celebrimbor, Talion, and Carnan, all three of which follow the trail of fire and dead orcs to reach him. [1] In the end, a brief battle takes place between Carcan and Goroth where Carcan uses all her life force and shoves him into the icy lake below which freezes his flames and ends him once and for all.
