Story Mode (New Game-mode added to Bannerlord):

I have been keeping an eye on this mod. I never played mount and blade but might have to buy it if this gets finished.

Well we almost got a stable alpha ready for our testers, so even if all should fail something can be released :)
However I think the dedication of the team speaks for itself. We began back in 2015, but have only been able to mod properly for Bannerlord since the modding tools were released in October. We also got a few scene done, so I think it's safe to say that at least some stuff will be released.

I think the story mode we have planned will be a great service to the Tolkien community as it could bring some life to the Unfinished tales and alike stories from the Third Age :D

I loved unfinished tales.

Could you give me a quick understanding of the gameplay. You chose one leader and build from there? is there diplomacy? in battle are you the one guy and command your troops? and can it be played mutiplayers on the campaign map?

I shall see what I can do:

There will be 3 different ways of playing the mod:

1. Sandbox campaign:
You select a race, a culture and a faction you belong to and even the fiefdom where you were born. (Example: Men, Dunedain of the south, Gondor, Lebennin). From there on you can travel around the map of Middle earth on the campagin map and visit locations (Minas Tirith, Pelargir, Osgiliath and a ton of other setltlements everything from mines, villages etc.). On the campaign map you can also see parties moving around (friendly armies, enemy armies, bandits etc.) whom you can interact with. You have your own party where you can both command normal units, but also recruit special named NPC's that you can delegate certain units to control during battle. You can control the troops yourself, upgrade them when not in battle, get new equipment, take quests, befriend known NPC's and quite a lot of other things - we might even add a riddle-game in taverns. There is no real objective in the sandbox you can go as you like if it's conquering settlements for Gondor or live as a merchant or something third.

2. Multiplayer:
Multiplayer in Bannerlord is only focused on the battles, but there are different game modes such as captain mode (you control a small group of men each and have to capture small capture points), battles, sieges, duels - more mighte be added as Bannerlord is in Early Access.

3. Story Mode (A feature we add in the mod):
Story Mode can both be played as single-player where you fight the AI or it can be played as co-op (if possible), which means you and a group of friends can work together to win the different scenarios.
Story Mode does not have a campaign map, but is instead tailored so players can play as their favourite characters and enjoy the battles from both the movies and the books.
There will be different storylines to follow like The Last Alliance with 6 missions, The War of the Ring, Kin-Strife, Eorl the young, Fall of Arnor, Fourth Age and Helm Hammerhand are among the planned campaigns.
When you have completed a mission you can replay it in 'free-mode' which means you can play as what ever hero you like: So Isildur defending Helm's Deep, just to give an example :)

I hope that sums it up.
If you haven't seen Bannerlord gameplay yet I recommend you check it out. Here is a scene made for the mod (with normal Bannerlord units):

Thanks for a great summary, I am sold. I will be getting the game just to play the mod. I will also show my brother and son. We are always looking for games to play MP on. Thanks once more.

Cool perhaps we will one day fight side by side against the hordes of Mordor :D

Just as a last note, btw:
It will take some time before the first release is out (Doubt it will be 2021).
The First release will cover: Gondor, Rohan, Dunland, Isengard, Mordor & Harad
We are aiming for a finished product with the first release so there won't be too many bugs

That being said Bannerlord is still a very fun game to play and there are also other mods in development for it, such as Silmarillion mod, several roman mods, Game of Thrones mod, Star Wars along with a few others mainly inspired by historical events. There's even a few out now that add roman legionaries, centurions and alike

Thanks for the info. But i think i can wait for the tolkien mod. Its really only why i am intersted.

Beautiful stuff. I watched one of the videos on your yotube channel so you will have ents then and trolls? what about flying units?

I have an entire episode about creatures that will be featured actually:

The game doesn't handle flying units at all (no ai path-finding) and therefore it won't be a thing. There are Bannerlord mods out there that claim they will add good looking dragons, but if you take a look at how it looks now, it's terrible and just re-used animations from a hawk. It's really terrible, and we don't want stuff like that to ruin the mod. We will only do things if they are of the highest quality.

There's some really great soundtracks done so far as well. I got a playlist on my channel with all the tracks in case you want to hear some of it. I can recommend it.

Oh and yes trolls (several types) and ents will be a thing. You'll likely be able to play as one in Story Mode for certain missions - however that will first be much later. We can't develop it right now as TaleWorlds haven't released all the needed files for modding multiplayer stuff. (got a video about story mode too)

Thanks for the video and i am glad to see most of the "monsters" will be included. Its disappointing not to see Nazgul but understandable. Have you given any thought to Huorns?

I've been using maps from this VG mod for writing fanfic and roleplaying.
Not much of a video game guy. What is the current status of these projects?
I wonder if it died as there doesn't appear there is much news after 2021 or so.
