The only stuff I got was nothing but Pippin killed record in the battle of Black-Gate with a seemingly unskillful combat technique. Any other sources of how Free People military personnel handle combat against trolls?

My husband has great tactics, he is a much bigger fan than me. Until I met him, I didn't care so much for literature, but I was very grateful to him for showing me all that : D

To be honest, it doesn't take much brain-power to defeat trolls in battle. The only advantage a troll has is its incredible strength, but without the brains to use it, a troll is essentially a battering ram. The same goes for goblins and ogres. However, I wouldn't venture to say this is the same with Uruk-hai or Olog-hai, as both of those are improvements upon the originals.

I'm guessing arrows and spears.
Oh yes, in particular to not-well trained personnel such as peasant class units, but what about those well-sophisticated, such as Men-At-Arms class units, and so on? Fire-power and long cold steel seem to fit rookies only. I wonder there're any performance like Hurin or not 🤔

Exactly, even though I still can find almost no clear clue to show how much they're improved, no matter from which JRRT's sources...
Keep them arguing until dawn. ;)
Make you delicious enough so that they'll argue as an result. XD

As you appear to be thinking in wargaming terms, I'll venture a couple of possible sources to explore. I confess to being unfamiliar with the video game side of Middle-earth gaming, whether online or otherwise, but have you checked into the vast Games Workshop material? You'd certainly find detailed classifications -- and abilities -- defined in their various rules and suplements.

Then there are the older MERPS games, although those are more RPG-oriented.

Of course, how reliably "canon" they are, is a matter of opinion -- they no doubt "fill in" many things missing in the books.

"Lorekeeper of Nardor" - that rings a weak bell. Hasn't been around for over 7.5 years ...
Some information on Nardor, in case you're curious:

Towards the end of this one, it was "theorized" that the blue wizards became "lords of Nardor":

And of course, Troll helped bring to light the "truth" of the fell beasts of Mordor:
