The Bidding of the Minstrel

1708858713547.png

After casting the Silmaril into the sea, it is said that Maglor took to wandering the shores, singing in pain and regret beside the waves. It is also stated elsewhere that it was the gift of elven minstrels to evoke visions from their songs. Now imagine him singing of his brothers.

While making this piece I was never entirely sure whether he was bidding them to come to him, or bidding them to stop haunting him. Perhaps both.

One of few artworks I've ever seen where Maedhros has curly hair! Yay!! I don't know why most artists seem allergic to doing it.

I like that Maglor has wavy hair and Amras' hair is a little darker than Amrod's. But Caranthir should have black hair, because HoME says his hair was as black as Finwë’s, hence his title The Dark.

I wonder if Tolkien took a longish break during the making of his list of Father and Mother-names (for Feanor's sons). Or maybe he stopped, just for a bit, to partake of a nice egg sandwich?

In any case, Morifinwe was indeed said to be black-haired like his grandfather (The Shibboleth of Feanor, The Peoples of Middle-Earth), but under the list of Mother-names (Shibboleth again), the description reads: "he was dark (brown) haired but had the ruddy complexion of his mother"

full disclosure: I stopped in the middle of this post for a nice egg sandwich ;)

This is so gorgeous. His hair isn't curly, but I can forgive it.

These are not elves...

This is the Elf:

Joke aside... I am really impressed with Feanor sons.
The use of colors is so gritty... so beautiful... like it says by itself about their curse.
I've checked the artist other stuff on Artstation.
She is amazing.

Thanks for this.
