Rings of Power Season 2 Trailer

This Annatar is pretty similar in his physical appearance as the one from the video game Shadow of Mordor, just looking more "common".

Looking good! I was going to wait until the episodes all dropped before I start watching as I think the binge format works better for this show. But if they drop two on August 29th I may watch them and then wait for the rest and rewatch the fors two with the rest later. We'll see.

I think it's very positive (it seems to me) they understood many of the issues of previous season.
This trailer looks much more serious then anything Rop before.
There is also a behind the scenes video, where Morfydd Clark said that Galadriel will behave differently, and that says to me that they are well aware how annoying Galadriel from first season is.
I also see in trailer.. different using of sentences.. they are nothing really special (just re-phrasing Tolkien stuff) but a massive improvement over illogical blabbering from season one.
The whole tone is much darker - cool.
I like Charlie Vickers appearance as Annatar, and I am not bothered like some ("he just put wig" comments), because that can be easily explained in the series with just one scene, where we see that Annatar is capable of presenting himself in the minds of those who looks at him (and can appear as various looking characters), and this look that we as audience see, is just objective presentation of him (for our eyes).

But alas!
I don't think it will save it.
We can already see in this trailer that they are trying to fix many of the issues from season 1 (no harfoots, for example), and this will be much harder to do in actual series.
There are too many gaps, illogical stuff that can not be easily covered, and also some characters (they can't replace all characters from the show) that are still here, and remain pointless.
Big issue I see is... They need to send Anattar all over again amongst elves, even they showed that part of the story in very rushed manner in last episode of the first season.. it's just... uh

I think much better move would be if they just scrapped all season 1, and started all over again.
I think financially, it would be much better move.
Because many would applause that decision (even the most annoyed Tolkien fans), it would give them time to breed, and to create something much better without pulling a very heavy burden of the past season.
Now they have army of people that literally hates them (not all of them are forgiving as I am.. hehe :) ).

All in all.. we shall see...
I still highly doubt it's possible to turn tide.

I still highly doubt it's possible to turn tide.
One never knows.
As Gandalf said to Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn:
"Be merry! We meet again. At the turn of the tide. The great storm is coming, but the tide has turned."

I do not think the 3 of them had any clue what Gandalf was actually saying - certainly no idea how he knew it was so. Nonetheless, "the tide has turned."

(Note the mixed syntax. On the one hand, they meet 'at the turn of the tide.' The very moment it happens. Immediately, the syntax puts the event in the past. The storm is coming, but the "the tide has (already) turned." Quite important to the whole.)

We meet again, RoP season 2 and us. At the turn of the tide. Our vision, however, is not as Gandalfs. We cannot be sure if the tide 'has turned.' We can only know we and RoP2 are meeting again.

@Ent
I am not sure, what you're trying to say.
The tide that Gandalf mentioned is about "Sauron is not aware. but here I am, and other forces are involved. The tides are changed, but still, the power of his fist, shouldn't be disgarded. He might, yet, give us a final blow".
This is what I understood.

As for Rop... I don't know.. we shall see.
As I say earlier.... I highly doubt it can be salvaged.

@d4rk3lf Rings of Power may have had a rough first season, according to some people, but plenty of tv shows have this issue and turn out awesome. It could very well happen with this show as well :]

I personally enjoyed the first season. Tolkien himself stated his works(including The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings) not as historically accurate documents but as translations of documents copied from others. And I believe many of us already know about how the first edition of the story Bilbo told Gandalf about how he recovered the Ring from Gollum was different from the one he recounted in the later editions or in The Lord of the Rings. This illustrates the creative license taken by, perhaps, many writers in Tolkien's world. Who's to say every event in The Silmarillion happened just as Tolkien wrote it? Why couldn't the TV show's plot have credence too?

I could name lots of reasons but I will instead go to bed.

This is what I understood.
Ah, my friend, we think of this passage in precisely opposite terms, but that's fine. And this isn't the thread to discuss it.
Perhaps I'll open another later for a discussion of Gandalf's meaning here. It would be fun.

Ah, another fine discussion.
Though Tolkien did say Hobbit and LoTR were written "more as historical documents" while Silmarillion was "written instead as mythology", Tolkien did record Bilbo's lie.

We really need to understand what Tolkien was indicating when he specifically told us SIL is 'written as mythology'. (Including that it outsizes and oversizes armies, beasts and beings, and allows for the alteration of events of tales along the way, just as all other mythology does.)

I don't think we can go nearly as far with Hobbit and LoTR... they're more 'history'... though history does change things written, for many, many reasons (which I will refrain from listing the primary ones of here, lest some be offended.)

Anyway, there is significant license with SIL to a certain extent... and to others, I think there's likely very little license.
Such as having Gollum's predecessors create the One Ring, or Treebeard create the oceans.

You make some good points. :]

jeepers, don't tell anybody. ruin my image...!!

I owe a good deal of pondering on the matter to my time spent editing our @1stvermont's (Jeb Smith's) book Middle-earth Lore.
Helped me greatly in opening my thinking to what Tolkien was really doing, and how things should more properly be considered

It's very generous from you to say the season 1 was bit on a rough side.
No, I am not talking about them non sticking to the lore, I am talking about scenes they did, that actually don't have common sense.
- Why ship float and stones can not.
- Galadriel able to kill troll in 5 seconds.
- Galadriel jumping into the water trying to swim billion miles back to M.E. , and then encounters raft with Sauron himself
- Harfoots mantra "nobody walks alone", while they do exactly opposite
- Galadriel being angry and threatening Numenorians for no reason, Numenorians being scared of elves taking their jobs
- Queen and Galadriel both agrees that Galadriel should leave, yet Queen imprison Galadriel
- Galadriel threatening with the dagger to Elendil who is just trying to help her.
- Greatest elven smith on that time doesn't know how to combine metals
- Durin don't want to speak to Elrond, unless Elrond win in "braking stone" competition. Elrond looses, yet somehow Durin agrees to talk with him, but at the end, we find out that Elrond looses intentionally (does this makes any sense whatsoever? )
- Galadriel trains Numenorian soldiers in a way that she is just showcasing her skills. She is also able to imprison 4 numenorian guards in 2 seconds by pushing them.
- Greatest battle in the season involves small village, and some orcs

... and many many more...

And as I pointed before, this will be a huge burden for season 2.
I am very glad that they are aware of the issues, and willing to fix them, but that will lead to some strange situations, for example, they need to send Anattar back again, so they do the proper version of it, instead of just rushing through it in the last episode of season 1.
And if you think about it, even if season 2 turns to be awesome, it will be pretty weird that seasons in 1 show differs so much.
Yes, there were shows that started weaker, and going stronger each season, but this would be too much contrast.

Just my opinion.

Whatever happens with RoP Season 2, I can assure us all of this.
"The Universe will unfold as it should." (Spock - Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.)
Or not.
