What are you watching?

Lawrence of Arabia (for the umpteenth time)

Spielberg on his first viewing of "Lawrence...." : (He was 15, maybe 16; his birthday was a week or so after the initial release in December 1962)
“I remember the time I almost gave up my dream of being a movie director...when the film was over, I wanted to not be a director anymore. Because the bar was too high. ...It was the first time seeing a movie I realize that there are themes that aren’t narrative story themes, they are themes that are character themes, that are personal themes; at the heart and core of Lawrence of Arabia is: who am I?”

I watched the first three episodes of the second season of Andor (a Star Wars TV series). I won't be watching anymore. The first season was dull as ditchwater, and the new season is no better. They describe it as a 'spy-thriller', unfortunately the directors seem to have forgotten to include any espionage, or anything even remotely thrilling.
I rather liked it myself. I also like the fact they are releasing 3 episodes a week.

Just watched Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (my all-time favorite movie) at the theater for its 20th anniversary! 🥰

I love how the film references the scene in episode 1 when child Anakin gave teenage Padme a necklace so she would remember him. Reminds me of Húrin giving Brandir a man he would later kill in adult hood much like how Anakin accidently kills Padme in episode 3 his priced birthday gift.

I believe it was actually Palpatine who killed Padmé by transferring her life force to Vader-- but that's really getting knee deep into Star Wars lore and I will refrain from writing an essay about it here. 😂

But yes, the prequels are full of cool little details like the japor snippet necklace.

Last week, I posted a song from Australian artist DPR Ian in the Music thread:
Post in thread '🎶 :The Official TTF Music Thread! 🎶' https://thetolkien.forum/threads/the-official-ttf-music-thread.28781/post-626747
-- and as I said there, he's as much filmmaker as singer-songwriter, so I'm going to post some of his work here.

First, a bit of background, which I'll try to keep as concise as I can. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in high school, and later with Dissociative Identity Disorder. The latter is controversial (it used to be called "Multiple Personality Disorder"), but evidence has been growing in recent years. Its origin seems to lie in early childhood trauma, causing a person's mind to break up into different "alters", with different functions.

Ian has been using his art to deal with and express his mental journey, at least since beginning his solo career about four years ago. A couple of earlier albums introduced one main alter he calls MITO -- an acronym of "Moodswings in This Order" (or sometimes "In Disorder"). This character functions to protect him from accessing the memories of whatever trauma he suffered as a child.

More recently, he's introduced another character he calls "Mr. Insanity" who comes out during his manic state, and it's a short sequence about him I'm going to post here. I won't say much about it -- partly because the complexities are beyond me, but I believe the first couple portray Mr. Insanity exerting his influence in an attempt to control Ian completely, in order to gain access to memories lying on "The Other Side". Ian has said in interviews he fears this could drive him to total madness.

It should be kept in mind these aren't merely "characters": they can and do "front" -- that is, take control, while "Ian" is blacked out. In fact, this happened while making a video -- he asked his camera operator if he was ready to start, and was told they'd already done three takes. That was MITO, and Ian had no memory of it, but used the footage in the final video.

I may post that one later, but for now, here's a sequence about Mr. Insanity from his latest album. Note: these music videos contain images and themes some may find disturbing. BTW, English subtitles are available, for anyone wanting to examine the lyrics.

There follows a short connecting bridge:

I'm placing the final part under a spoiler, because the "full" Mr. Insanity's chaotic nature is on display, and the video contains a good deal of mayhem -- and a couple of mildly rude moments.

As with my "Love Wins All" post, I welcome comments or discussion.

My thoughts: Wow! What?! Who?! Why?! (etc.)
Hah. Try the sequence I posted above. 😄

Speaking of which, since I'm here:
I may post that one later
I'll do so now -- his first since beginning his solo career. As I said in my original post, he came out of his "blanked out" state with no memory of having filmed takes, because they'd been done by an alter he calls MITO. A person experiencing this often "wakes up" disoriented. Ian decided to incorporate the footage in the final video, turning the MITO portions black and white ( there's a lot of color coding in his work -- MITO is associated with black and red, for instance). Here's the result:

Right now I'm watching IU 's livestream of her "Golden Hour" concert.
Edit: Well, you missed it. Here's a clip of the opening:
I posted that one a couple of years ago; here are a couple more, that were uploaded more recently:

I guess I'm a little behind the times. I've just watched "The Night of the Grizzly" (1966, Clint Walker).
My kind of 'terror' I guess.
