What didnt you like about Peter Jackson Hobbit movies?

I just watched The Battle of Five Armies on the airplane (it was the only Hobbit movie that the airplane had for some reason).
I may never recover.

Okay, things I didn't like:
1. Tauriel
2. Kili
3. Any scenes where Tauriel and Kili are together. That was horrific.
4. Legolas. He's great in LotR, but he was just completely out of place here. Also, since when does he have Unbreaking V Mending III Power II Infinity on his bow?
5. Those giant worm things. The orcs are like "gUYs lOOk we hAvE thEse GIANT ROCK CRUSHING MAN EATING WORMS (which we totally didn't copy from DUNE)! PREPARE TO BE DESTROYED!" And then the worms do LITERALLY nothing.
6. The CGI. It was just super obvious that the two giant orcs (Azog and the other one) were CGI, they stood out against the landscape, and their movements were unnatural (this is coming from somebody who thinks the CGI in the original Star Wars movies was good).
7. They went way too overboard with Thorin being obsessed with the gold, it felt kind of like they were turning him into a mini Denethor.
8. Why did they turn Thranduil into a jerk?
9. Did I mention Tauriel already?
10. Basically everything else.

Things I liked:
The song during the credits.

Pretty much agree, I must add that Thorin, Fili and Kili didn't look like dwarves at all.

Also when Bard kills Smaug, that weird ballista thing, yeah I know PJ likes to overdo things, but in the book it is just an arrow, the thing is, aiming at a particular spot on a flying dragon chest while he is breathing fire all over is hard enough, but doing with that thing is impossible.

Dain looks like an idiot.

Legolas, besides having no business being there is way over the top. That scene that he is using the failing rocks as steps is way too much, even for PJ.

Let's not forget Tauriel.

And when Tauriel asks Thranduil why it hurts so much and he tells her because it was real. You would know that wasn't Tolkien because, it made absolutely no sense.

I feel I am forgetting something.

hmmm

oh yes, Tauriel

BTW, PJ seems to have a special gift to make us hate female characters.

I just hate all Strong Female Characters TM in general. I wish we could have female characters who are strong in a feminine way (like Nia from Wingfeather) without needing to march out to battle and kill 50 orcs. And I don't mean characters like Eowyn, because she isn't unrealistically strong and at the end of the book she doesn't go off to become some great warrior or the ruler of a kingdom, she marries Faramir and decides to become a gardener and healer (if I remember correctly). I mean characters like Tauriel and Hera who are overly masculine for a female character.

I don't know if this makes sense the way I wrote it, it makes more sense in my brain.

Surely not The Bride!

B. Kiddo is awesome!

How did Tarantino and Uma Thurman Conceive 'The Bride'

IMO, Ripley from the Alien is also not a bad "strong female character".

Yes. Sooo much modern content holds this issue and there is sooo much one could say about it. First, it springs from the culture we live in, is pushed by the same culture, and therefore shows up all around us. Feminine men and masculine women are a part. Strength is shown in so many complex ways and there is both a masculine and feminine version; its as if we forgot that feminine strength is its own thing and is a thing. I see because it denies and repels God-given human nature and human biology is why people hate it. Its actually irksome and I smile when I see people behaving as if its natural. "Come on, you (or at least your consciouses) all know its not," I say to myself. Its an elephant in the room. I was thinking about this the other day when I posted a thread about Arwen and Helm's Deep here on the forum with this:

oh it does make sense. The thing is that Hollywood seems obsessed with showing they are progressive regarding women's rights. But the reality is that a woman can be strong, and better than men without needing to lose her femininity. There is nothing wrong with that but the media have sold us the stereotype that women have to be equal to men in every sense. Neither gender is intrinsically better or worse, both are human (or elves), both have the same capabilities and rights, but they are not strictly equal, which again, doesn't mean that one is better than the other..

BTW, who is Hera? I know the greek goddess but I don't remember seeing her in any movie/book, except maybe the Percy Jackson series.

Exactly!

Hera is the main character in War of the Rohirrim.

oh I never watched it. Not into that kind of movies.

One more point to notice. When Hollywood, or the media want to show powerful women, they actually denigrate them. When a woman, to be equal to men needs to be like them, losing an inherent part of herself, they are not empowering her, she is reduced to a mere copy of a man.

1. Tauriel
Yeaaa, she sucked. Respect to the actor tho. The actor actually said that she didn't want to be put in a love triangle, yet they put her in a love triangle.
I liked Kili by himself. Just erase Tauriel. Like, I think he could've flirted with her a bit bc that was kinda like his personality, but it shouldn't have been anything serious.
4. Legolas. He's great in LotR, but he was just completely out of place here. Also, since when does he have Unbreaking V Mending III Power II Infinity on his bow?
Yeaa i didn't rlly care about him.
6. The CGI. It was just super obvious that the two giant orcs (Azog and the other one) were CGI, they stood out against the landscape, and their movements were unnatural (this is coming from somebody who thinks the CGI in the original Star Wars movies was good).
Yea, the CGI wasn't amazing.
7. They went way too overboard with Thorin being obsessed with the gold, it felt kind of like they were turning him into a mini Denethor.
Eh, I don't agree.
8. Why did they turn Thranduil into a jerk?
OKay, I think part of this was the actor too. Like, I liked him being a jerk personally, but he was a little too much of a jerk. Bc at least that distinguished him from other elf kings. cuz in the books he was just some nice guy who nobody cared about. But it was a little overplayed. LIke they could've had him show like some sympathy.
10. Basically everything else.
They weren't the best movies.
Things I liked:
The song during the credits.
What about the casting of Bilbo? And Smaug was soooo amazing. Like, that was an amazing cast.
Pretty much agree, I must add that Thorin, Fili and Kili didn't look like dwarves at all.
They were young. I didn't rlly care about that.

Yea, and a movie with dragons, hobbits, and elves isn't unrealistic at all 🙄
Dain looks like an idiot.
Bro he was so minor y u care that much 😭
BTW, PJ seems to have a special gift to make us hate female characters.
Huh? Tauriel was the only female character I hated. Cuz in lotr, all of them were done well.

yEA, Hera was totally a strong female character. Did u see her beat up that guy?? And he was like 5 times her strength and she managed to beat him using her pure strength somehow. like wtf? But eowyn was great tho.

That book series was my childhood.

Both genders do not have the same capabilities.

That's true.
both have the same capabilities
Men run higher on testosterone; women run higher on estrogen/progesterone. That combo affects everything from muscle mass to fat distribution. Men usually have more upper-body muscle, broader shoulders, and reproductive organs built for delivering sperm. Women usually have wider hips, more body-fat storage, and reproductive organs built for pregnancy and childbirth. Can a man give birth? No. Is a woman as strong as a man? No. Therefore, they are not even close to having the same capablities.

I thought this was interesting....
btw "Mental Rotation" is another way of saying visualizing a spatial displacement or just visualizing objects in 3-D when you aren't actually observing the object in 3D (real space)
The Table stats are pretty accurate if I'm to believe my observations during the last 5 or 6 decades.

I was more referring to mental, or intellectual capabilities, men are not intrinsically smarter than women, neither are women smarter than men.

I am the first to recognize the physical differences, I for one don't like women's sports, they are not the same, that's not diminishing women, it's just they can't do it as men do.

But a woman is equally capable of being a CEO, or a President, or a scientist.

the problem I see is more social, I find that in many cases, women in positions of power feel the need to prove they can, and sometimes they overdo.

That has nothing to do with their capabilities but with context.

I am against all those movements that want to eliminated femininity and go too far to make them "equal", not realizing they are barking at the wrong tree. It's not about forcefully being equal, it's about having the same opportunities, taking into considerations that there are things that women can't do, and things that men can't do.

They're not, but they do have differences. Generally speaking, men are better with technical side of things, mechanics, cold logic. Women are better with social situations, emotions and similar.

That being said, brains are extremely plastic, so these are very far from neat categories.
