The quest to find a smaller hat for Frodo? 🫤

More weirdness. This one's by one Lester Abrams. Don't recall Gollum described as being furry...and what's he holding to Bilbo's neck? Speaking of Bilbo 😬

The Rankin & Bass production was influenced by this cover.
I know this is very specific, but Gollum kind of reminds me of that bird called Mayzie from Horton Hatches the Egg, I don't know why. They're both alike and unlike (is that a word?).

Makes sense why he wanted to eat Bilbo, if he's a bird and Bilbo is a toad.

Do birds eat toads?
(And don't anyone reply "Oh toadally." 🙄)

Actually (pax to Radaghast) you did use unlike correctly. And unalike is also correct.
Both are used as adjectives, predicate adjectives to be precise. The follow the verb "are" ..."They[are] alike and unlike."
Radaghast I believe is using unlike only as it has been used lately in the realm of social media as a verb....you "unlike" something.
But that is actually a misuse (no surprise there) ...the verb that should be used is dislike.

Be that as it may... Idril take heart, you are in the best of company.
Tolkien uses it in the TT exactly the way you used it.
In the chapter The Voice of Saruman, Gandalf, Aragorn, Theoden et al have ridden to Isengard and are now at the foot of Orthanc where Gandalf has summoned Saruman to "come forth."

"They looked up astonished, for they heard no sound of his coming; and they saw...an old man, swathed in a great cloak...His hair and beard were white, but strands of black still showed about his lips and ears."
"Like, and yet unlike," muttered Gimli.
[Comparing Saruman's appearance to Gandalf's ].
