King Fingolfin looked over the lake of Mithirm. He was troubled, he knew that they would never win over Morgoth, and the best they could do was send messengers to Valinor, and establish a secret fortress of hidden strength. But he could not; long ago he swore an oath, now he did not mean to fail his brother’s sons, who had their own oath to fulfil.
Hisilome was under night. “What is all this mist?” he said aloud.
“It comes from Angband,” said his manservant.
“ What does this mean? Once more the pits of hell belch mist send out my son Fingon, and all rider that can be saddled in an hour. And send a message to Turgon, I need to have consul on this, ask him to bring Gofindel as well.”

"Yes my Lord" answered the servant, going off to find a messenger.

He put the task on one Orodur, who rode eagerly away west. His strong horse galloped tirelessly over the plain of Mithrim and into Dor-lomin where Lord Fingon dwelt.

"Greetings Lord Fingon. I bear messages from your father. He asks that you, with the greatest number of riders that you can spare, will ride out onto the plain of Ard-galen. He also asks that a message be sent to Lord Turgon, summoning him and one Glorfindel to Mithrim for council with your father."

"Strange news Orodur." Fingon replied. "And I wonder what this is regarding. Nonetheless it is done, but I will ride first to see my father. You may ride with us, or I will have one of my people go with you through Annon-in-Gelydh, for that secret way leads swiftly to the land of my brother."

"I believe Lord Fingolfin is wary of the fogs, and is merely being cautious. There has been no attack nor sighting of the enemy as of yet. And I will gladly seek for Nevrast with one your folk."

At this Fingon thanked Orodur, and summoned one Ingilon to be his companion.

Fingon began the marshalling of his cavalry, as Orodur and Ingilon rode off towards the hills west of Dor-lomin.

Iantain looked up at this news, the fact that fog had came down from Ereed Engrin troubled him not as it had been a wet summer, but the fact that there would be need to go to mithrim lightend his heart. He had, many years ago, dwelt in mithrim and though he had removed to be nearer his lord, he still delighted in the veiw of the lake.
"My lord," he said " may I be your herled and travel with you, for I am busy hunting out the dreadful spiders of ered lomin ,or else in your service, and I have not been in Mithrim for nigh on seven years."
" Very well Iantain, but we leave in an hour as I have need to see my farther."

The Sun rose behind the messengers as they reached the place where a stream ran into the mountains. Inside was a tunnel with a walkway that lead out to the other side of the hills. The Gate of the Noldor it was called, and was made by the folk of Turgon at Ulmo's bidding.

Orodur and Ingilon hopped from their horses to lead them down steps that went to the stream below. At the stone arch where the stream entered the hill Ingilon brought forth a Feanorian Lamp, they guided the horses through the tunnel in its blue light. At length they emerged on the other side of Ered Wethrin, and so entered the land of Turgon...

Fingolfin sighed, he knew that by now the messengers would have arived, but still fingon hadn't arrived.
He caught the light of spears in the distance.
------------------------------
Iantain climbed the steps of the king and blew his horn," The lord Fingon has arrived to see the King!".
Half an hour later he was sitting by his lord as the farther and son spoke on the speach of the noldor they were talking about the estimated strengh of melkor,"Farther, He canot have more than a ten thosand men after the glorious battle."
"My son," said the king "he has more orcs than there are stars, none can spy angband."
Angband, the hells of iron, Iantain looked to the east and north, he felt dizzy, he could feel him. He was there like the eyes of manwe he could see everything.
As dusk fell the riders past over the mountains, the fair land of mithrim behind them. Iantain had not the heart to look.

A few hours past midday Turgon and his companions exitet the realm of Nevrast and soon they saw the lake Mithirim. A few moments later they found themselves surrounded by mounted guards. Of course they had seen them long ago and already knew who it was that were approaching their city so it really as nothing but a Guard of honour, yet the presence of the guards made Turgon uneasy and he suddenly felt an even stronger urge to meet with King Fingolfin.
Not long after that Turgon found himself waiting to be accepted into the kings’ chambers

"My son," said Fingolfin striding down the steps of his palace "I am glad you have came. Erenion is here in his farthers absence, as Fingon is riding over the green reigon with the wind in his hair!". The king motioned for the servent to leave, " Turgon, he is hunting against Orcs, though none have been found, our villaglence must never fail. He looked into the east and a darkness crept into his eyes, " My future is dark, the dark lord clouds my vision, yet i can say, that never again shall i look upon Tiron."
"My lord why did you summon me?" said Turgon.
" You are restless, I sence a change, but we wait for Fingon. We talk about war." then the sun seemed to shine brighter, recalling the lightof the mingalling trees, fingolfin laughed, "So, tell me about nevrast, how is the noldors white lady?"

The two talked long through the night about many and al things until the sun once again begun to rise and Turgon asked
"We have now talked about everything worth talking about save one thing; You did not summon me here to simply inquire about The elves in Nevrast nor the well being of our kin, so what is it that's troubling your heart father?"

"Fingon has a thosand riders out on the plain" the king said, " In addition to the five hundred Elves alredey manning the hill-forts, that is fifteen hundred elves, news comes that eightteen hundred are riding from Magor's gap and the pass of Aglon, one thosand ride from the high lands, and another two thosand from the forts from here to Ered Luin. Five thosand two hundred in the Ard Galen."
" What does this mean?" Turgon asked.
" We have senced somthing, the north is preparing for war."
" Why, it is only fog!"
" Yes, but it shows how nervous we are, five thoasond for a bit of fog. We have only 12,000 total. All of our kingdoms are scared, not only of Morgoth, but of each other, we do not want to look weak."
They stood in silence looking to the east, where Fingon had gone, Turgon looked up, " We can not win. Espeically if we fear our kinsmen.".
" Half brother in blood, full brother in heart,Yes, we will fail, unless some aid comes from the sea, or we hide in the valleys till help come"
A glow filled the room, coming from a small orb on a table," The Palantiri!" Fingolfin cried, picking it up in both hand and faceing east.
Fingolfin seemed to close his eyes, then to withdraw into himself.
After a few moments of internal debate, he dropped his hands, " Orc scouts." he said.

"Or we'll hide in the valleys.." As soon as the words had left fingons mouth Phenix immediately came to recall the vale of tumladen and the unfinished city of Ondolindë. suddenly the though of telling Fingon about his plans for the place, of his meeting with ulmo but just as he was about to open his mouth Fingon looked up from the palantir and as the word " scouts" escaped the elfs lips only one though remained in Turgons head We do not want to look weak, And nor do HE

"Where?" Turgon asked as he turned towards the exit, if orcs once again dared to venture into the realm of the elves war was sertainly once more at hand and they better act quickly...

"It came from the Maglor stone, the gap is restless." Fingolfin turned the stone to the south- east, and looked into it again, "Blank" he said, breathing out," So is Finaffin's, dorthonion is talking to Finafin aparently, but where is he?".
Fingolfin left the table, exting the room from the stairs at the back, they climbed to the top of the tower and looked east, even as Fingon looked east, riding on the plain, unknowing of the scouts.
" The sky is clear, no fire is lit in the pits of hell, He is thinking, He did not want us to know about His spies." Fingolfin turned, making for the door when Turgon spoke.
" Maybe he did."
" Elbereth look after us, He has sent scouts, made our pride grow, He knew that, He knew we would send out more Elves."
" So that when He struct, He would trap more." finished Turgon.
Finfgolfin took a horn from the herled and windend it so that the sound echoed though the streets, " Prepare to ride swift over the mountains, send scouts, prepare for batle, i need three thoasand at dawn."

As turgon hurried out of the chamber, towards his own quarters he saw Glorfindel rounding a corner in front. As the tal elf saw his lord he immediately quickened his steps and fell in beside Turgon
"What's going on milord?" He asked
"The enemy is moving, we leave at dawn" Phenix said” But not you" he continued and before the elf could open his mouth in objection he said
" I need you to travel back to nevrast and arm the men. Get as many men ready as you can in a day and then make your way here, i will make sure a message will be here when you arrive to show the way to us. also, make sure the council has done nothing to alter my plans about" As a servant hurlily past by, Turgon stopped talking, waiting till he was well out of the way before he begun anew "about the city. if you think some of them are to dangerous to be left behind say i wished to have them by my side personally. Now begun, hurry!!" Turgon finished and went inside his room, which they now had arrived to

Fingolfins manservant, named Ladbor, was with his master.
" Sire, if we send out three thoasand, we will only have 7 and a half thoasand elves to gaurd the realm!"
Fingolfin strode down the corridor, till he entered his room, there were many captains there, but one was missing, his son, lord of dor lomin.
"We march at dawn, scouts have been sent from the hill forts, there is a lull over the plain, Fingon has vanished from sight. We ride, by the time we get there we will have little time, for we must defeated the foes on the plain, and then my heart say's that we should meet the force of Maglor."
" Today" he yelled " We fight, saving kinsman and ally till the grass is free from Yrch!"

The elf gazed across the plain. The enemy had a huge camp, and only if you look very closely could you see it. Castor didn't like the sight of it, the odds for the king's army was ten to one. To go into battle would be suicide. He ran to the fortress. Guards were blocking him every two feet. " I have a message for the king.
