    Of Turin's Pride

I've been thinking a lot about why Turin was proud. I see only two possiblities: A-The Curse of Morgoth worked within him to make him proud B-He was proud already and his pride acted as a conduit for the curse to work through. I tend to lean towards opinion A. What do you guys think?

    Turin Turambar I

Turin Turambar Turin, son of Hurin Thalion of Dor – lomin and Morwen Eledhwen, was born in the year 464 First Age, a time of great turmoil for Middle Earth. It was the year when Beren Erchamion met for the first time Luthien, and legends spread for their brave deeds, raising the spirit of...

I have some questions about Turin Turambar

For several weeks already I have researched one of the major characters in the Silmarilion - Turin (you will soon be able to find his extensive history in The Gallery of characters in the Library of the Istari). During the process I found out him to be not only one of the most complex characters...

Gurthang, The Talking sword of Turin Turamber

Gurthang,, "Death Iron" was the name given by Turin to the black sword formely known as Anglachel. the black sword had formely belonged to Beleg Cuthalion, but in Turins hand the sword had taken Belegs life. Having just been reading the Sil again, a thought came to me, when Turin realises that...

Reading Problem: I just can't handle the Turin thing again!

Ok. . .I'd only read the Sil once and it was a few years ago, so on this site I recently found myself with huge memory gaps, which isn't good for posting. . .so of course, I decided to re-read it. I counted on it being slow going. I am continually getting distracted by other books, etc. ...

    Discussion - Turin's fate - a curse or faith?

One of the most tragic characters in Tolkien's Legendarium - Turin. His story thrills and inspires! What was it caused by: - the curse of Morgoth ? OR - the faith of Men?

    Tuor and Turin

Thsi passage has always intrigued me. Turin and Tuor meet, the two sons of two of the most valiant men of the Age, but they do not know of one another's existence. But what if Tuor had called out to Turin ? What if they had found out who they are and what they are to one another ? Would Tuor...

    Turin: the Movie

finished UT a while back, and the whole time I'm reading Turin's story I was thinking what a great movie it would make... except of course him marrying his sister... not to sure how a regular movie audience would react to that...

    Turin Turambar

I've read and heard conflicting things regarding the End of Arda. It says in the earlier HOME books - numbers 1-5 - that Turin Turambar with his black sword was destined to destroy Morgoth during the Dagor Dagorath. This, however, conflicts with the idea that Men leave Arda never to return...

    Finduilas-Túrin, a supposedly underdeveloped romance?

It has been made clear to us that Túrin really loved Finduilas. Obviously this caused great grief to both their hearts. We are hinted/implied that they were friends? Thus we also glean that Finduilas was wise. Love and Understanding/Friendship are too most important aspects of a...

    If Turin replaced Sam

How much better would the quest have been if Turin was Frodo's companion instead of sam? Or What about if Turin replaced Aragorn, that would be awsome.

Túrin and The Second Prophecy of Mandos

Would Túrin really return from the dead and kill Morgoth? This prophecy has long roots. From The Book of Lost Tales II: Turambar and the Foalókë Then it changed again in the Sketch of the Mythology or 'earliest Silmarillion'. From The Shaping of Middle-Earth: The Earliest Silmarillion Now...

Why is Turin Considered So Significant in Tolkien's Silmarillion?

I dont understand the great importance of Turin and why Tolkien places so much emphasis on him in the sil. To me it just seemed that he was cursed, ended up doing his sister, lived with wild men, and then slayed a great dragon which was a pian to a tone of people. What other effects did he have...

    Turin's Origins?

I have been wondering about the inspiration and origin of Turin Turambar as a character and considering who might have influenced Tolkien in his creation. In my own interpretation, I have whittled it down to two mythological hero's of Germanic and Icelandic origin. 1. Beowulf - who fought...

    Turin & Oedipus

In Greek mythology the story of Oedipus Rex is about a man who was cursed by the gods and his life turned out to be very tragic. In the Greek myth, Oedipus killed his father and slept with his mother. The murder of his father is what sets in motion this "curse". I think Oedipus and Turin have...

    Turin destroys Morgoth?

I have read from various threads that when Morgoth enters back to Arda through the gates of night there will be a final "Armageddon" battle in which all men and elves shall fight against all bad creatures. The prophecy says that Turin - yes TURIN - shall avenge his father and his fate set by...

    Inspiration behind Turin

Is not often mentioned nor known amongst anglo-saxon readers.., That cursed character is found in the ancient finnish poems the national epic "Kalevala". Turin's tragic story of cursed life of a great man is told in Kalevala. It is a side story in the finnish epic that tells of a man called...
