Bilbo, ⛰️Mountains, and Morgoth

I find it absolutely funny that the main bad guy of Tolkien's legendarium, created mountains to rise out of the earth, to hinder Oromë, and make travel difficult and treacherous for the Children of Illúvatar.


And the guy who stole the ring of his Lieutenant is talking about the first thing he wants to see is MOUNTAINS.


It's really hilarious, how Melkor was being all evil and slick, and then the "Most unlikely creature imaginable...Bilbo Baggins of the Shire" loves the darn things.

I love Tolkien for this slick piece of writing.

Way to turn a negative into a positive after enough centuries.

Same! And it it so casually-spoken, or at least appears so. Imagine reading that without the context of The Silmarillion we have now, without the history of the mountains. Now, with the Sil, it is so packed full of meaning. Kind of like a nice stab at Morgoth's black heart.
