🪦 Bob Newhart

Rest In Peace
A long career. He was introduced to a new generation through "Elf", and his recurring role as Sheldon's hero Professor Proton in The Big Bang Theory.

He originally rose to fame with his telephone monologs; even injecting a bit of levity doing it in an otherwise grim Don Siegal war movie:

Both he and Jonathan Winters proved that stand up comedy did not have to be "adult" ("R-rated") to be side-splittingly funny.
Interestingly, I stumbled across this 47-minute Phil Donahue piece on YouTube, in which Donahue had Bob Newhart an Don Rickles as guests - and Newhart and Rickles (the latter deep in "adult" territory when not appearing on normal TV) and their families were close friends!

yep... I did know that, about their families being close.

Finale of "Newhart" ...one of the best "final episodes" of any TV series

Very young Bob Newhart doing his stand up routine, "one sided" phone conversations

Big fan of Bob Newhart, thanks to an old vinal LP record that my dad used to have when I was growing up. A couple of my favorite "phone" routines, in no particular order:
** Abe Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address
** Sir Walter Raleigh and bringing tobacco to the States
** Driving instructor

Loved his style where you only got to hear his side of the conversation, yet half of the humor was imagining what was going on at the other end of the line.
