The true unsung hero. I liked the idea that he was just happy to be free and with nicer people. I guess I never really considered the significance of him going back to the Prancing Pony rather than to Rivendell.

I think Bill was waiting for Sam to return. So its likely why Bill went back there, rather than to Rivendell.
