i seem to remember reading a passage in HOME or in UT that was talking about the dragons and the effects of eating the heart of one...
i've been pouring over all my books but can't seem to find it again...
does this sound familiar to anyone?
thanks

This is what I found in Turambar and the Foaloke, Home II:
A great cunning and wisdom have they, so that it has been long said amongst Men that whosoever might taste the heart of a dragon would know all tongues of gods or men, of birds or beasts, and his ears would catch whispers of the valar or of Melko such as never had he heard before. Few have there been that ever achieved a deed of such prowess as the slaying of a drake, nor might any even of such doughty ones taste their blood and live, for it is as a poison of fires that slays all save the most godlike in strength.

that's it!!!
oh man....thanks a big one....i've been driving myself nuts trying to find it

i've been trying to compile the "narn" with Turin's story in the Silmarillion and other small passages and footnots into one cohesive story....i came across that passage but it was at the end of a loooonnng journey into the HOME and i was fully sleep/food dreprived and i was starting to wonder if i had imagined the whole thing up...
thanks again, Thorondor
the eagles always show up when you need them...
