Here it is - an Entish "What If" question. Most of you probably know Ent is not fond of "what if's," preferring to deal in "what is."
However, IF we were to have have:

9 Ents in one corner of the ring, and 9 ringwraiths in the other, and the two groups decided to go head-to-head in a brawl, Who Wins?

What are your thoughts and why?

Thank you.

Nine Ents enter the ring. They’re huge, leafy, and slightly tipsy from Ent-draught. One’s still arguing with a birch about parking.

Nine Nazgûl glide in—hissing, cloaked, smelling faintly of damp laundry that’s been left in the washer too long.

At first, the Nazgûl think they’ve got it—lots of shrieking, swooping, and pointing dramatically. But Ents aren’t men; they don’t faint when someone screams at them in Black Speech. They just roll their eyes (very slowly) and mutter, “Young people these days…”

Now, the real problem: Ents don’t move fast. They’d spend the first five rounds having a very long meeting about whether the wraiths technically count as “woodcutters.” Meanwhile, the Nazgûl would be circling, probably bored, maybe arguing over whose turn it is to fetch Sauron’s laundry.

Eventually, though, an Ent gets annoyed enough to swing a branch. One Nazgûl down, looking suspiciously like a squashed moth.

So the tally? In the end, I suspect the Ents would win—not because they’re stronger, but because the Nazgûl would give up after realizing you can’t terrify a tree that takes three days just to finish saying “good morning.” 🌲

And if all else fails, the Ents could just sit down. No blade, no terror, no fell beast can budge nine tons of angry, stubborn bark. Victory by treebutt.

But honestly, jokes aside, my money is on Ents. From what I had come to understand, the power of Ringwraiths mostly lies in the fear the induce on their victims. I imagine Ents are more resilient to this, being old as the are.

Also, imagine Ringwraiths trying to cut down trees or sth. Their non-existent flesh would be used as fertilizer.

Ents are gonna take their grandelves with them too! We're a package deal!
Indeed, difficult it remains to protect the grandelves from themselves.
The ancients may have taught the Ents speech - they began it all of course - but they failed to teach their own to hear - and listen. (Two very different things.)
Hasty the ancients were - hasty their progeny remains. Always in the way of harm, they toss themselves.

An interesting study may be into how many things the Nazgul actually accomplished, outside of being discomfitting - creating uneasiness or fear.
To be honest, the only thing springing into my sapwood at present, is one managing to stab Frodo with a nasty knife.

I must ponder this. (added to the list.)

Perhaps the most effective weapon against them would be 9 Vulcans. They, of course, can control their emotions: pain, fear, and such-like.
But sadly, Tolkien gave us no Vulcans to work with.

I feel like I'm being called out. 🤔

water and fire
Indeed. Just keep in mind Saruman tried the fire bit... and did manage to take out one of us.
But in the end, he acquired too much water to deal with himself..!
As to the Ringwraiths, well... it SEEMS like it doesn't take much to freak them out. (A play on a phrase taken from Independence Day.)

feeling guilty, are we? 🤣

always hard to deny the exuberance of youth it is - and always difficulty youth have understanding the denial.
but often it truly is for the best.
the ringwraiths COULD be such a case.
