What role, if any, did Erkenbrand play in the War of the Ring after the conclusion of the battle at Helm's Deep? He's not mentioned in the Pelannor Fields battle or the expedition to the Black Gate, IIRC. It's as though he fell off Tolkein's radar after Helm's Deep.

It would seem he stayed in Rohan in charge of the forces left there. Éowyn, it seems, was to be more of a political figure left in charge. At least that's what it tied to this footnote on Tolkien Gateway:

Given the author's note, that's the answer. Curious that he wasn't mentioned in the defense of Rohan when the Mordor army attacked as Theoden was heading south to the Pelannor with the main body of Rohirrim. Of course, that "defense" was largely led by Ents, as I recall.
