Flags of the Stewards of Gondor?

[1stvermont]

Reading through ROTK and I noticed something in regards to the flag of Gondor. It seems the flag with the 7 stars, and the crown above the white tree is the flag of the house of Elendil. In the chapter Minas Tirith it seems pip sees the "the flags and white standards of the citadel." I remember reading when he first entered the city with Gandalf he saw white banners. So if the stewards banner/flag simple white?

[grendel]

I believe that is correct. When Gandalf and Pippin rode up to Minas Tirith, it told how "the white banners broke and fluttered from the battlements in the morning breeze..."

You have quotes here:

Banner of the Kings of Gondor, The - Things - Henneth Annûn

... the Stewards never sat on the ancient throne; ... and their banner was white without charge; but the royal banner had been sable, upon which was displayed a white tree in blossom beneath seven stars.

The Return of the King, LoTR Appendix A, Annals of the Kings and Rulers: Gondor and the Heirs of Anárion: The Stewards

...the flags and white standards of the citadel...

Or maybe it's just simply the symbol of any military unit's serial symbol on duties at the citadel, after all JRRT didn't mention it's certain users, correct me if I was mistaken.
