Inspired by a discussion on words in thread What Are You Writing About Now?, here is instituted a little game for all to play, if they so desire!

The rules are very simple.

1. One person picks a word and submits it to the group.
2. The group attempts to guess the meaning or application of this word.
3. Hints may be offered at the Word-Giver's discretion.
4. Any number of people may play, but it is suggested for efficiencies' sake every guess must be read before another is made.
5. If no one can guess the word, the Word-Giver reveals the meaning/application, and another is allowed to submit their word.
[The same person may be Word-Giver multiple times in a row, depending on the mood of the group.]
6. It may be obvious, but this game is meant to be played using one's own wits. No dictionaries, thesauruses or AI help is permitted.

If there are any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

For now, here is my word for you all to guess, whoever wants to play: fletch.

Does it have anything to do with fletching, or a fletcher?

You are correct: fletching has to do with the making of an arrow. The term "fletch" refers to a specific part of an arrow.
I hope this helps :]

Fletching ( i believe ) has to do with attaching the feathers to an arrow. There are differing patterns, straight, spiral...also coloring.
They are positioned a certain way so they aren't mangled by the bowstring when you let it go. ONe of them (can't recall what is called) is like reference and positioned such that it s on the outside farthest from the string,it is also horizontal in orientation and may be differently colored than the other two.

(Sure. I'd give it to Deimos. He pretty much nailed it with making the feathers/attaching them. I've read so much LOTR fanfiction at this point that quite a few archery terms are embedded in my brain. 😅)
I was going to attempt to make Legolas' Mirkwood bow and some arrows, all screen accurate, correct size and fully functional.
This was suppose to happen about 20 yerrs ago.... and didn't. But I retained a fair amount of "bow and arrow" design terminology.
Fletching was one topic heavily discussed in arrow making because "hitting the bullseye" (aka Flight Stability as Watcher wraith states) is dependent on how well the arrow is fletched.
