Halloween Movies 🎃

[Erestor Arcamen]

Trying to decide what to watch tonight. I’m either going to watch The Shining, one of my favorites, or maybe something Vincent Price

[Squint-eyed Southerner]

The Tomb of Ligeia, if you haven't seen it. One of my top 5 favorite films.

And Price plays it straight.

Seen it, it’s excellent

The Shining

[TrackerOrc]

Not sure if it's an actual Halloween movie, but 'Bone Tomahawk' is a truly nightmarish watch. The description of 'Horror Western' doesn't do it justice by any means.
Nerves of steel and a very strong stomach required for this one.

Will have take a look (post-Hallowe'en)

There's a remake coming out in December from Robert Eggers (he did The Witch, the Lighthouse, and the Northman, all excellent movies).
Plus, it's got Willem Dafoe in it, which is always a plus.

Here's a movieposter for the film:

Here's a movieposter for the film:

Is Willem Dafoe “reprising” his role as Nosferatu after he had played him/Max Schreck in Shadow of the Vampire?

I think he's playing the Van Helsing character, though under a different name; Bill Skarsgaard is Count Orlok the Nosferatu creature.

I hope there will be some epic scenery chewing here!

Worldpremiere was yesterday in Berlin. Most reviews seem to be very positive - currently 93 % fresh on Rotten Tomatoes:

Nosferatu (2024) | Rotten Tomatoes

Robert Eggers' NOSFERATU is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.

You all do know that the actor playing Nosferatu--Bill Skarsgård-- is the son of actor Stellan Skarsgård, right?
Like father like son....

[Berzelmayr]

Yes, Stellan Skarsgård has seven sons and one daughter.

Rebooting! Tonight’s movie

Rebooting! Tonight’s movie

I've seen that one. They went out of their way to make Christopher Lee look different than the stereotype we got from the older film.

I still think Night of the Demon ** (1957, a UK release of Sabre Film Co) is one of the best-est ,scari-est [mood] movies ever made.
It is a pretty well done dramatization of the short story The Casting of the Runes by M.R. James.
Because the original tale was a short story, the movie has been "padded".
But I saw the movie before I read the story (not knowing it was based on a story).
When I finally read the story I was impressed with how faithful the movie screenplay was to it.

** released in the US as Curse of the Demon.
The US release was cut. I bought the DVD which came as a set with both versions.
Never have watched the cut version... no reason to do so.

Once this motion picture sinks its fangs into you you'll never be the same. Sssssss!

Tonight’s, another Hammer film I’ve never seen!

Tonight’s, another Hammer film I’ve never seen!

6.7 on IMDB ... not bad.
And a young Oliver Reed. Every movie that has Oliver Reed in it that I've seen he's been older ....(or dead 😬 ---Gladiator ).
Some of those scenes are familiar: the masked "Hook Man" and the car backing off the cliff.
Yet "I have no memory" of having ever seen the movie. But maybe I was very young at the time ...7-8.

He played a Teddy Boy in this strange semi-sequel to to Village of the Damned and Children of the Damned -- Hammer, 1962:
