Arwen wandered alone in the gardens of Emyn Arnen as a light drizzle fell. The dripping from the trees accompanied the sound of the small creek that wound its way from the hills and through the estate. It had been a month since the birth her and Aragorn's daughter who came prematurely.

Her plans to have their first-born in Minas Tirith was thwarted by the child they named Vardarianna. The healers, and her own Elven physician said that despite the churning and active movements of the baby in her womb, she would be ok to travel to Emyn Arnen with Aragorn. She was only a couple weeks past being seven months along.

But Arwen could tell their child had a strong will throughout her pregnancy. Somehow, she was not surprised she would find a time most inconvienient to want to come into the world. With her husband and Lord Faramir away, it was left to Lady Eowyn and her maidservants to attend to her. It was not an easy birth, and Arwen fell ill afterward. Her physician hurried to Emyn Arnen, and she and her husband's hand likely saved her life in the aftermath of the birth.

For the first week, all she could do was feed Vardarianna, and though she regained her strength, she still had complications, and when Aragorn had to return to Minas Tirith, it was advised that Arwen stay behind for another fortnight. As much as she wanted to go home, she did not want to risk travel until the bleeding stopped completely.

A fortnight turned into a month, and now, she would be leaving the next day. As much as she wanted to return to Minas Tirith, she became attached to the quiet and the beauty of Ithilien. It helped in her healing, and she was finally getting a clear mind again. Maybe too clear as she thought about the interactions of those around her.

Her physician said she was suffering from post-partem depression. Vardarianna cried a lot when Arwen held her, unless she was feeding her. She didn't seem to react that way when Aragorn held her, or Eowyn, or Faramir. Still she did her best to keep her feelings to herself; recording her thoughts in her journal. She hoped things would change and adjust once they went home to Minas Tirith...
