In the talk of the Aulë and the Manwë, in The Theft of Melko (BOLT volume I, 149p), there is a sentence that I can't understand.

"Lo! if Meko sets once more turmoil in the world, was he not bound in chains aforetime, and so may again."

What is it mean? Melko was once chained up before, but why not? I don't speak English well, so I can't understand what it means. I'll appreciate it if you explain it more easily to me.

Welcome to TTF!

It's saying, Melkor was in chains once for misbehaving and if he does it again he could be chained up again.

That or they're saying, 'he brought turmoil and was chained up. He could definitely bring turmoil again when he's unchained.'
