If Saruman was faithful!!!

If Saruman was faithful to Sauron would the comapany have succeded?

I think not coz if he was he would have told Sauron as soon as he knew about the whereabouts of the company/ring and he knew that the ring was found before Sauron, so Sauron would have known to watch more carefully, which brings up another point if Saruman was faithful would the wize among the free people of Middle Earth namely, Gandalf/Elrond/Círdan/Galadriel/Celeborn, have used the rings power?
and what would it have done for them? i.e would it have brought armies? No, (you cant just magic up armies from thin air) thats wot they needed so wot did the 1 ring do and how would it succure (sp) victory?

I don't think so. They would never use the Ring. They would hide, run away, or die. They saw that using the Ring is a greater danger, and a greater evil, than death. (See discussion about Denethor's madness in the thread "Was it truly madness?").

But Saruman did tell Sauron about the whereabout of the fellowship. When they were attacked on Amon Hen there were more than just uruk-hai. There were mordor orcs as well. So Saruman did tell Sauron at least that much

But did he tell them they had the Ring? I think not. Saruman sought the Ring for himself, and so left Sauron in the dark as to its whereabouts.

I also agree with Eriol, none of the leaders would use it, even if it had no chance of being destroyed. They were all too aware of what would happen.

I agree, no one can wield the ring, but Sauron. It would be hard for anyone to control the ring, especially if Sauron had his spirit within it. Saruman, what a knuckle-head.

That's not what I was trying to say. I believe some of them, especially Gandalf and Galadriel, could have wielded the Ring with relative "ease." However, they were fully aware that they would be corrupted and be the next Dark Lord, totally nullifying any victory they gained over Sauron. IMO, Gandalf as a Dark Lord would be even more terrifying than Sauron.

That is true. I really didnt read the other posts and put what I thought. Your right though. Galadriel past the test of the ring and if she didnt, she would of been a dark queen. It she would failed, do you think she would of been a dark elf?

Im not saying she is, but thought she could be turned into one. Thanks for letting me know though.

An elf cannot 'turn' into a darkelf.
Besides according to one tradition, there were no elves, dark or light, who willingly supported Morgoth. The same scenario can be expanded to take in Sauron.

Would the company have succeeded?
No, I don't think so. I don't think so that they would have even reached Bree not to mention Rivendell.

Oh, ok then. So Dark Elves are just a race in itself. I know they were not apart of tolkiens work, but figured. Well thanks again.

I think you missed the plot a little bit. The Dark elves are simply elves that did not go to Valinor and see the light of the two trees. They are in no way evil, and are very much a part of the Quendi (elven race), not a race in their own right. The dark elves are sundered into several divisions (based on if the refused the journey to Beleriand, refused to leave Ossiriand etc.) some are greater than others (in strength and appearance), but all are lesser then the "elves of light". In fact only the house of Elwe came close to the greatness of the greatness of the Calaquendi (elves who came to Aman in the days of the two trees) because they had a Maia for a queen.
For more info on the Moriquendi (elves of darkness) and their subdivisions read “The Silmarillion”.

Yay my first post in over a year!
