Now discuss Gandalf hitting the water. In our world he would have been killed upon impact by (a) the impact itself, especially after such a fall, and (b) the shock generated by the temperature of the water.
And a side note: Denethor didn't have a beard in the movie!
Joxy: We now find the heart of the matter. It is not so much that Denethor's fall was cheesy or impossible, merely that it was added. I don't deny that is a valid argument, if we look at the film as an adaptation.
