Ring of Fire

Given to Gandalf by Cirdan the shipwright when Gandalf arrived in Middle-Earth. Was it given to Gandalf the Grey, on his first arrival, or later when he returned as Gandalf the White?

(Did anyone notice he isn't wearing it in the movie.)

He wasn't wearing it in the movie because the point was to keep it safe, and unknown.

It was given to him when he first landed, as Gandalf the Grey.

Having just reread UT, it was when Gandalf first arrived.

But Cirdan, from their first meeting at the Grey Havens divined in him the greatest spirit and the wisest; and he welcomed him with reverence and gave to his keeping the Third Ring, Narya the Red.

And then, of course Saruman found out about it and got all disgruntled with Gandalf.

The holders of the three rings is supposed to be kept a secret. Frodo just happens to see Galadriel's in Lorien. No one else does though.

Also, there are a lot of thinks PJ forgot to put into the movie (or took out "accidently").
