Rings of Power: Positive vs Negative

can we determine it to be fact as opposed to speculation?
It looks like-- not saying it is, but-- the member copied and pasted an answer generated from ChatGPT. Why? The wording uses much phraseology alike to ChatGPT with lots of transitions in a step-by-step take, and a rather neutral, fence-sitting perspective which is also extremely generic and vague without pointing to any real details/substance. Now, sure, it's possible the member did write it, and it can't be ruled out, but upon examination, it seems rather scripted by AI.

hum and harrumphhhh. inconclusive. baraumbabadabardabaphamrumbolumbolagaraum.

That said, even if it is, he chose to post it as his opinion of RoP without identifying it as otherwise.... and would find himself 'identified with and by' its content.

I just find myself mildly irked when people's opinions are laughed at... as most everyone here knows. But then, it's just ingrained in my pulpwood I think.
I'll get over it.

BTW, I was accused of being a bot on another site, when I provided a link to a relevant thread here.
I was also accused of being a bot on YouTube because I would regularly comment on one of my old favorite YTer's videos. All I had to do was reply to the person who said so because bots don't reply on YT. 😂

Of course.

Proof positive that anything remotely positive said about Rings of Power will be denigrated here. 😆
Just feels suspicious . The person joins, adds a generic avatar and posts 1 comment that seems to follow the default chatgpt 'pattern'. There was also a link in the profile that led to some polish blog filled with AI images, but it seems to have been removed

I'm not saying it wasn't. I just thought it typical and at the same time funny.

Out of curiosity, I went in and asked ChatGPT what are the positives and negatives of Rings of Power. It turns out, ChatGPT can't talk directly about RoP because it was still in production during ChatGPT's last "knowledge update" in January 2022. If you read this response, you may notice it's talking about RoP in the future tense and speculating about possible future reactions to it, as though it has not been released yet. At least, that's how it is with the version I'm using, I don't know if it's different for anybody else. But you're right, that post in question is very similar in style to what ChatGPT generated for me.

and the proof is???
If there's a definite way to identify such a thing from a 'real member' post, I'd like to learn how.

Thank you.
There is no "definite way" because some people can indeed sound like bots, but a lot of unconnected generalized statements with no personality and no opinion seem typical of AI.

A real [flesh and blood] person (e.g. a "forum-ite") could submit a question about RoP (or anything) to ChatGPT, receive an answer, and then submit it here.
So it would, in fact, be a "real member" post, but not a "real member" original post, that is, one that was authored by the forum-ite.
Pax to Sauronmap but that RoP post just screams a ChatGPT origin, or paraphrase of one.

Now, is Sauronmap himself the latest and greatest iteration of HAL9000? ...Maybe he is ....
(In which case the post is actually an original one 😆)

We'll see what develops.

I'd be curious to see what you posted, just to see if you "sounded" like a bot/ChatGPT.
I'm betting you sounded just the way you sound here.... like a nerd... (same as the rest of us 😄)

If it's a bot, then it proves my theory that AI wasn't used in creating ROP.
His words makes sense. It's rounded up. It has beginning, middle and end. It's not random blabbering like Rop dialogues.

Wait, you're not a bot?
( 😋 )

It has a tone of affectation, pomposity and condescension.
The first characteristic--affectation-- is by far the most noticeable.
It's the literary equivalent of the "uncanney valley"; it's flat out artificial, almost creepily so.

Each sentence is ever so slightly jarring.... too perfect.
But put all the sentences together as a single reply and it's really obvious, "the whole being greater than the sum of its parts".
As for proof or test, I will quote [SC] Justice Potter Stewart who (in a specific instance), when asked for an objective test of something for which he had stated his opinion, said: "I know it when I see it".

I see that my post has garnered quite a bit of interest. The statement was written with the help of Chat GPT 4. I gave it my assumptions that I wanted to include in the post, and it did it for me. The question is, is it then a post created by AI? I often write business emails this way, and quite successfully.
I mainly added the post because I wanted to have some recorded history. I added a link to my blog because your forum ranks for some of the keywords that are important to me (SEO).
If I broke the rules or offended anyone, I of course apologize.
As for the series itself, I really had a good time with it .
Ending my statement, I am a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings. When I finished reading The Return of the King as a child, I felt as though I had lost a friend.

No worries, @Sauronmap! We are not offended (I hope), and thank you for clarifying the message up with us. We TTFers tend to digress and hyperfixate a lot, so please don't take our analysis personally. 🤣

And I feel the same way every time I read LOTR. You never want it to end. But you can always read it again... And again... And again... ☺️

Thanks for returning Sauronmap. I don't think you broke any rules. Of course, anyone who hints at not completely disliking Rings of Power will draw heat for it here.
And yes I get it. It's why I re-read Lord of the Rings as soon as I finished it the first time.

Ent has pondered, and Ent has concluded. (For Ent, anyway.)
one thinks thoughts. one grabs a chisel and hammer, finds an appropriate rock, and cuts an image of those thoughts into the stone. The chisel and hammer are tools.
one thinks thoughts. one grabs a pencil and paper and scribbles words onto the paper, and those words express the thoughts. The pencil and paper are tools.
one thinks thoughts. One grabs some brushes and paints, and paper or canvas, and composes those thoughts into images. The brushes and paints and paper and canvas are tools.
one thinks thoughts. One pushes representations of those thoughts into some form of AI program such as this 'chat GPT' thingy, and the chat thingy extrudes its representation of the thoughts it has been fed. The GPT thingy is a tool.

In each and all cases, the tools are used to provide a representation of the thinker's thoughts. When the thinker sees the result the tools have produced, if the thinker does not like the end result it is scrapped. If the thinker is OK with the result of the application of the tools, the product remains...the representation of the thinkers thoughts.

Was it a GPT 'creation' ? By no means. GPT is but a tool. The input and accepted result were the thinker's creation, realized through use of an avaiable tool.

Like RoP, AI "is". Whether it's AI applied to artwork or word-smithing, it exists and will become more widely spread.
(Another incremental step in the decline of the skill and power of the actual human being, but hey... we've accepted such destructions to our species for a long time now. No need to stop. We think we are 'progressing' after all...!)

Thus like RoP, like it or not, it is... and is not going to change, or go away. "Resistance is futile." But we do need to understand the difference between application of tools and other things.

Frankly, though both must be accepted, because they ARE, and no amount of crowing or whining will make them disappear, it would seem use of tools would be easier to accept.

(Reminder: 'acceptance' is NOT the same as liking or agreeing with. But acceptance is essential for appropriate mental health and balance.)

anyone who hints at not completely disliking Rings of Power will draw heat for it here
We continue in hope those who 'dislike' RoP will yet come to the place where they can just say "I can appreciate your opinion. Mine is, I dislike the RoP series. In my view, it sucks." rather than what we usually see, which is some form of thinly veiled 'hArHaRhAr you colossal fool... every scene of RoP is just dreadful and you're a nut job for thinking otherwise."

I do believe some progress has been seen in that direction. I do also believe we'll know soon if I'm just drinking the wrong Ent-draughts.

And no, no rules were broken in the production of this chat GPT post.

FYI, ChatGPT 4 has data up until April 2023, and also it can be given a URL and asked to summarize an article that discusses the exact same subject. So fully possible to do anything "fresh" nowadays with GPT
