Rings of Power: Positive vs Negative

I'll let Hal speak for himself, but his point is valid: ROP does seem to have renewed interest in Tolkien -- just as the movies did.
I do. I edited my previous post listing the positives and negatives as I didn't care to bump the thread.

Having recently gone to a fantasy faire, it was cool seeing a lot of people cosplaying Rings of Power characters. It was nice chatting with some of them. A couple teenagers recently discovered Tolkien via Rings of Power, and some of the older folk have been book fans for decades. One of them even registered here but never returned after a look around and seeing all the Rings of Power hatred even before it aired. The thing that stood out is they love Tolkien, and they love Rings of Power. It isn't mutually exclusive despite what JT and those with likeminded attitudes would like to believe.

Well. I guess it's good to re-hash all these same things said before in NUMEROUS other threads BEFORE RoP2 gets here.
... it may be good to let the steam release valve open again for awhile, to rid ourselves of all the pressure we bear over the thing again, before new stuff is added in.

Oh they will always find more coal to shovel into their boilers. I'll likely take a hiatus from this sandbox when season 2 approaches.

Seems to me that the situation is similar to that in (Association) Football with their hooligan problem (and to a lesser degree with some of the fans who like to style themselves as "ultras" - fans in the original sense of fanatics). This hooligan trash doesn't care squat about the sport, they just want to have themselves a "nice" brawl. Same with the newer generation of trolls - trolls having plagued the Internet from the word go, apparently. Their version of the hooligan brawling is their hate-spewing, which often has little to do with any specific film, TV series, game, whatever product of the moving picture media. That irrelevant mental diarrhea unfortunately drowns out legitimate criticism, where I would list PJ's character assassinations of Faramir et. al. in LotR as exhibit A. On a different level, a matter of taste, would voicing of opinions that this actor or that actress were miscast in their role. Or that they played the role badly - but that always reflects back on the director (and the producers). And not putting too much strain on the "suspension of disbelief" so necessary for fantasy, or actually all fiction (of which there is far more in supposed "history books" than any of us are aware of; John Ford's 1962 film "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" starring James Stewart, John Wayne and Lee Marvin makes that point quite nicely), might also be a good idea.

Rop and Tolkien works are more mutually exclusive then Feanor and humbleness. :)
To play devil's advocate, liking Rings of Power and liking Tolkien's works is not mutually exclusive.

Sure, RoP may be a garbage dump, but... I enjoyed Eragon. 'Nuff said.

Though argument could be made that Paolini at least showed more respect to Tolkien than RoP creators did. He at least loved the things he was plagiarizing, and you can actually see that in the novel. RoP creators despise Tolkien, they just want to cash in on his popularity while at the same time destroying everything beautiful about Tolkien's work.

The sewage is all the hatred for the show,

Well said, Halasian sir. As to this one tiny piece though, for me… yes and no. The sewage isn’t exactly the ‘hatred’ for the show…hatred is. Melkor and Sauron are examples.

The sewage is what is done with that hatred. Had Melkor and Sauron kept their hatred to themselves, the world would have been a far better place.

The inability to address and deal with the hatred… cope with it… accept it… ignore it…. overcome it… and move on... this would be fine.
The need to keep on and on and on ad nauseum saying and doing the same negative and destructive.things, trying to somehow end up with a different result in spite of the impossibility… that becomes the sewage seeping through every nook and cranny it can, looking for like minds and companionship in misery.

No. You don’t have to ignore the show. Keep wallowing in the disgust and rage it gives you. Pour it out hoping to find and or produce like minds. Pine your life away fretting and spewing over it. This much is guaranteed. At the end of your life you’ll say. ‘Why in the WORLD did I waste so much time on that issue. Look at all the other things I could have done with the time positively.’

Sadly, people are trained to be just as they are. And, they have little or no idea how they really are...not aware there is even any other way to be.
The programming of society and the machine is complete…the mold filled, broken, and the product release…the desired results seen. Hard it is, to become anything other than the mold intended one to be.

Wallow well in misery. Weary thyself in beating thine own head against the wall of that which is, trying to achieve that which is not.
Ent chooses higher ground.

The sewage is all the hatred for the show, not the show. Merry Christmas everyone. Take care.
Yes, one should probably not insult the sewage by comparing it to Rings of Power.

At least sewage is useful. Rings of Power... are not. What is more, show itself is a direct result of hatred - it is made by people who despise Tolkien, his ideas, his work, his philosophy and his legacy. And it shows.

IMO, "choosing higher ground" is an excuse of a person who has given up.

↑ That's what I'm talking about. ↑

At the end of my life, I would be ashamed if I didn't say anything about series that butchers my favorite writer.

You are twisting facts too much.
It's not like me, or everybody that dislikes the show, is spending too much time on it.
Hate is too strong word. I don't hate pretty much anything. I don't hate the show. I feel disgusted about the show.
And I feel somewhat happy about it, because it's so bad.
It would be worse if they made better show, but still non-respectful to Tolkien, as it would drive more audience to false belief that Tolkien wrote something like that. This way, were most of the non-Tolkien fans, are still bored to death with this show, everything is perfectly clear.

Looking forward to watch season 2, and see how they will try to solve the things that can not be solved.
This show can not be fixed.

That's cool. Most hold that view.
This show can not be fixed.
The assumption here is it NEEDS to be fixed.

To all who hold these sorts of views, my response is only I hope and trust some day, people learn how to choose meaningful battles to invest their energies in, with far more value in the investment of time spent.

My love for Tolkien and his works is equal to anyone's. Probably greater, and for greater reasons.
But wasting my time spewing venom over RoP has absolutely no meaningful value for the investment of my time. I'm thankful there are some who have the time to spend (waste) doing so. My intent with RoP is simply to "use it as it is fitting and profitable to do so" rather than abuse it because it is there.

Use of it is productive. Abuse of it is futile. It's not going to change.

No one needs to agree with me. The only reason I share my opinion is I feel since I need to suffer through all the negative ones, it's appropriate for others to suffer through my perspective there's a different view to take.

Note once again: I'm NOT saying I like RoP. I'm not really addressing RoP at all. I'm addressing what we DO with what we do not like, how we evaluate its importance in the big scheme of things, and such.

My grandmother spent all her life sitting in the windowed nook of her home, watching the street and what all the neighbors were doing all her life, making sure she knew all she could about what was going on, complaining about every detail she didn't like. As she died, I do hope she realized what a waste her life had been. But I doubt it.

My hope is we don't waste our lives, but spend every moment we can in effective and productive pursuits.

"Choosing meaningful battles" is how you end with Mordor.

There are no meaningless battles when it comes to matters of soul. Beauty is worth preserving for its own sake. And RoP is an insult precisely to that: it is a caricature, an Orc head placed onto king's body.

After being severed by Girl Boss, of course.
